Greetings!

Is it just me, or has this winter lasted way longer than usual?  Just about the time it seems it will never, ever happen, robins start calling, buds start swelling and new life, despite everything, pushes its way out of the thawing earth.

Time to begin anew.  Time for change.

introducing new service:

garden maintenance

Over the past seven years, I have had numerous requests to do garden maintenance from homeowners who are too busy to tend their own gardens, who are overwhelmed with not knowing what to do when, or who simply prefer to spend their leisure time pursuing other interests.

This year, I have finally gotten around to addressing this need by hiring some help.  Meet Eric and Rose (see intros below), whose interest and backgrounds in gardening I will be supplementing with training on how to prune shrubs and roses, properly care for all different species of perennials, plant annuals and divide and transplant overgrown plants.

So if you need help maintaining your garden in pristine shape, give me a call.  We can do as much or as little as you like.

meet Eric

With a special interest in urban agriculture and its use in combating food deserts and a background in customer serviceEric, Eric Thomas is making horticulture his next career move.  He will be graduating with an associate's degree from Triton's horticulture

program in May where he has been the recipient of numerous scholarships. A visiting scholar at the University of Illinois' Plant Breeding Center and a technician at Triton's botanical garden, Eric brings the latest knowledge on every aspect of plant care along with a well-developed eye for design (all you have to do is follow him on Pinterest to see that!).

Eric will be helping with garden maintenance and annual plantings where his training in proper pruning techniques, perennial care and soil amendment will be put to good use.  Look for him at Oak Park's Brown Elephant resale shop, too, where he helps raise money to support the uninsured and under-insured client base of the Howard Brown Health Center.

meet Rose

Rose Hermanns worked for over 23 years in the banking industry. Now retired, Rose is busy volunteering at Ten
ThoRose 2013usand Villages and as a catechist for Ascension's Good Shepherd catechesis program. She also serves on the Senior Advisory Committee for Oak Park's Park District and as the Treasurer for her condo board association.

Rose moved to Oak Park from Wisconsin a few years ago to be near her grandchildren, but she misses having a garden of her own. "I like to have my hands in the dirt," she says, "and have a lifelong love of working with plants and flowers to enhance and beautify our environment. Flowers and plants make everyone happier, and working with plants are sunshine and food and medicine for one's soul."

After helping me with the winter planters this past season, Rose will be assisting with summer arrangements and annual plantings this spring.

As you can see, Kiave Design keeps changing as we continue to grow.  Like us on Facebook

Thank you for keeping me in mind should you hear of a neighbor or friend who would like to update their landscaping, needs to renovate areas of their garden due to remodeling, is thinking about a new patio or is simply interested in a consultation on a specific landscaping issue.
