Sheriffs' Institute Summer Camp Enjoys Another Great Year
It’s hard to believe, but camp season is nearly over. Check out the goodbyes to campers from staff as another week – and now another year – of fun at Camp Iroquois ends.
Sheriffs Make the Most of Their National Night Out

August 1 marked the 40th Anniversary of National Night Out, as many Sheriffs Offices in New York State continued their annual promotion of this event throughout their communities.

Police Chiefs Association President Steps Down Post-retirement

The Town of Saugerties Police Chief Joseph Sinagra (pictured), who was sworn in last month as President of the New York State Association of Chiefs of Police, has now retired from the Department.
 
Chief Patrick D. Phelan, Executive Director of the Chiefs' Association, said Sinagra surrendered the position of President upon his retirement, as only active Police Chiefs are eligible to serve in that position.
Calling All Sheriffs
Retired Delaware County Sheriff Tom Mills (right) meets up with former colleague and current Delaware County Sheriff Craig DuMond at the recent Delhi Telephone Company open house.

Mills was the County Sheriff for 19 years until his retirement in 2017; DuMond began his service as Mills' Undersheriff in 2012.

Basic School for the SRO — Ulster | August 21 - 25
The New York State Sheriffs’ Association's Committee on Policing and Safeguarding Schools (C-PASS), will hold its next "Basic School for the SRO in Ulster County. This MPTC-certified course will equip an officer with the necessary knowledge on how to navigate the difficult task of policing in a school setting. Keep up the good work, C-PASS!
Jail Administrators Training Conference | September 25 - 28

Cortland County Undersheriff Retires
Decades of Service — In September 1995, Budd Rigg pledged his oath of service with the Cortland County Sheriff’s Office. Now, nearly 28 years later, Undersheriff Rigg announced his retirement from the Office last month. Cortland County Sheriff Mark Helms (pictured, left) noted the Undersheriff’s legacy. "Thank you for your dedicated service to the Cortland County Sheriff’s Office and the community.”
