8th Annual

Linda Plaut Festival of the Arts

Newton Community Pride is excited to announce the 8th Annual Linda Plaut Festival of the Arts will be held July 21-22, 2023 at the Hyde Community Center Bandstand and Playground! Our schedule is almost finalized and we have a wonderful array of concerts and activities to choose from. The Festival kicks off on Friday, July 21 at 6:30 PM with a pops-style performance by Newton’s own New Philharmonia Orchestra with special guest singer songwriter Kemp Harris. The event is followed by an instrument petting zoo and a screening of E.T.

On Saturday, July 22nd, NCP will be hosting 10+ performances on 2 alternating stages all day at the Hyde Playground from Noon to 8:00 pm. There will be something for everyone to enjoy - musical performances by local and regional talent, an author reading, juggling act, a live mural painting, and vendor and craft booths. Cool down with a Kona Ice snow cone or a glass of cold beer or wine from the beer garden on Saturday afternoon 4-8 PM. All festival performances are free and open to all!

Support NCP's Spring Appeal

As Newton Community Pride approaches the end of our fiscal year, please consider donating to our Spring Appeal today and help us continue to bring free arts & culture programming, beautification, and service to Newton. We are a small but mighty nonprofit and rely solely on support from our business partners and individual gifts. From city-wide public art, music concerts, and festivals to caring for our award-winning gardens, and supporting great ideas & events with micro grants and operational support, our small nonprofit couldn't do any of it without your help.

Please consider showing your Newton community pride by making a tax-deductible donation online or by mail today and help us continue bringing art, culture, beautification, and service to Newton. Those donating at the Friends of the Arts level ($250 and above) will receive a set of Celebrate Newton Banners greeting cards. Our mailing address is 1294 Centre Street, Newton Centre, MA 02459.

Washington Street Corridor

If you would like to see more opportunities along the Washington Street corridor for public art, murals or sculpture now is your time to participate in a short survey. The City of Newton is planning improvements to Washington Street (between Chestnut Street in West Newton and Lowell Avenue in Newtonville) and needs input.

Although this survey is primarily for safe streets, bike & pedestrian concerns, questions #11 and #14 ask about public space assets. If interested, please participate by June 12 in this short local users survey for all who travel, visit, dine, or work in the Washington Street project area.
