Staggered Race Start Time
You spoke. We listened. As participation in the Ferguson Twilight Run continues to grow each year, the starting line gets increasingly crowded. Thank you for speaking up and letting us know that your race start experience can be improved. To help ease congestion at the starting line on May 17, the one mile fun run will begin at 5:00pm. The 10K will start at 6:00pm, and the 5K runners and walkers will begin at 6:20pm. All races start and end at the Plaza at 501 (501 South Florissant Road). |

Chip Time vs. Real Time
Getting to the starting line can seem like a race itself. Fortunately, your race bib takes the hurry and the worry out of getting across the starting line. Each race bib has a chip on it embedded with your registration information, and your chip is not activated until you step across the starting line. Your "chip time" is measured by the time from when you step across the starting line until the time you step across the finish line. The time from when the race starts to the time when you cross the starting line does not count toward your chip time. On race day when you stand behind the starting line with your pace group, rest assured that getting to the starting line is not a race. |

5th Year and Still Running: Spotlight on Dwayne James
In 2009, Dwayne James ran his first 5K race in Forest Park alongside Live Well Ferguson's Couch to 5K team. At this time, construction on the Plaza at 501 in Ferguson was nearing completion. Dwayne organized the first annual Ferguson Twilight Run at the Plaza at 501 in 2010 "so that people could experience the joy of crossing a finish line in their own backyard." Dwayne has continued in his role as Race Director of the Ferguson Twilight Run every year since then.
According to Dwayne, his favorite part of the race is the starting line. "In one moment, you get to see nine months of planning and all of these people who have accepted the challenge to cross the finish line." To him, the race isn't only about the fun. "The race gives Ferguson residents another opportunity to showcase their community in a fun and healthy way." During the race, you might find Dwayne directing music groups to their spot along the route, giving cups to all of the water stations or handing out trophies to the top finishers. He's never actually run as a participant in the Ferguson Twilight Run, but he always runs the 5K route the morning after the race is over "to earn his medal." |
