It doesn't take much to be reminded of Mother's Day coming up this Sunday. Always the second Sunday of May, Hallmark and other retailers do all they can to remind you of the holiday starting shortly after Valentine's Day - at least it feels like that!
Mother's Day can be a fickle holiday - while it is worth celebrating for so many, there are some for to which this manufactured holiday can be difficult and painful. So, as always, I like to honor all women on Mother's Day - there are matronly qualities that many women have, with children in their care or not.
So, if you are a mother, I give thanks.
- If you are a grandmother, I give thanks.
- If you're the "cool aunt" that gained that title because you are a good family friend, I give thanks.
- If you're the Sunday School teacher, I give thanks.
- If you're a neighbor that makes great cookies and always shares them, I give thanks.
Whatever category you fall, I give thanks. Remember, no matter what you're called, your first title is "Child of God" and "Beloved". And for that, I definitely give thanks.

This Sunday, I will miss all of you in worship - my family and I will be celebrating Austin's wonderful achievement of a Doctor of Strategic Leadership from Liberty University by traveling to Washington D.C. for a couple of days to do our best tourist expressions. I know Rev. Blake Tickle has been crafting a meaningful worship service for all who gather in-person or online at 10am. Enrichment Hour will NOT take place this Sunday so all may have extra time to celebrate Mother's Day. Enrichment Hour will conclude for the Program Year next Sunday with Education for All. I look forward to hearing all about it when I return to the office on Monday!
