Felician Village celebrated seniors week May 13-17, 2024. During the weeklong celebration many activities for residents and staff took place that incorporated the theme of “Powered by Connection."

Some of the week's events included a campus sing-a-long, a surprise chicken dance, pancakes in the Bistro, themed dress up days, special treats for residents and staff and much more!

Volunteer Appreciation Luncheon

We are SODA-LIGHTED to have our volunteers!

Felician Village volunteers were invited to a special luncheon on April 24. Guests enjoyed a delicious Mexican style buffet prepared by the FV Culinary Department as Debbie Pitsch, Volunteer Coordinator, acknowledged our volunteers for their dedication, time and hard work. Each guest left with a fun themed party favor - a bottle of Jarritos soda.

Volunteers...THANK YOU for all you do! You are priceless!

Congratulations to Warren Gaffney who was named the 2024 recipient of the Volunteer of Year award at Felician Village. The award was presented at the 2024 Volunteer Appreciation Luncheon.

Very well-deserved! Warren volunteers as a driver for both the 12-passenger Felician Village bus and the Felician Village on the Go vehicle.

Duck Rescue

On Monday, April 29, FV Director of

Marketing, Megan Bruckschen, saw a mother duck crossing the street followed by her ducklings, then saw that several of the

ducklings had fallen into the sewer. The mother duck was distraught and was in the road letting everyone know how upset she was.

Megan and a friendly neighbor decided to act. Together they managed to open the sewer grate. Megan went in and began to pull out the ducklings to safety.

She made sure that the ducklings and the grateful mother duck found their way to safety. We are thankful, as is that mother duck, for Megan’s diligent care for creation!

(Disclaimer: DO NOT TRY THIS AT HOME! Megan could clearly see the bottom of the sewer and the neighbor also had a ladder nearby if needed!)

Service Excellence

After a hiatus, we are excited to bring back the Felician Village Service Excellence award to recognize a staff member for living out the Felician Core Values of Respect for Human Dignity, Compassion, Transformation, Solidarity with those in Need, and Justice and Peace. Congratulations to the April Service Excellence Award Winner, John Frison, Culinary Services Aide!

John’s nomination: “John is a very competent, conscientious and friendly food server. He makes sure my husband and others are taken care of and always asks if there is anything else they need or wish to have; like ice cream! He is the food service angel. Thank you, John!”

May Crowning

On Friday, May 10, Felician Village held its May Crowning. Father Klingeisen led the procession down Heritage Hall to the statue of the Blessed Virgin Mary where a resident of St. Mary's along with a FV staff member, Holly, crowned the statue of Mary with a wreath of flowers.

St. Mary's Poets

St. Mary's residents used words cut out of magazines to create poems. They had so much fun putting together beautiful verses.

BINGO

Intergenerational activities are a resident favorite! A wonderful homeschool group made a visit to The Villa at the end of April to play BINGO with residents.

Court Family Game Night

Court residents and their family and friends had so much fun a the spring game night playing BINGO and winning fun prizes!

Off to the Races

The Gardens, The Court and The Villa residents all celebrated the Kentucky Derby in fun, unique ways.

The Gardens held its own Kentucky Derby thanks to resident, Shirley, for hosting and organizing it. Lots of winners, games, horses, drinks, snacks and beautiful hats!

The FV Life Enrichment Department set-up a derby board in The Villa and The Court. Residents rolled a giant dice to see how many spaces their horse could move.

Community Volunteers

During the month of May we had two local businesses bring in a group of employees to volunteer their time and talents with our residents.

Lakeshore Technical College staff created fun chicken crafts at the assisted living areas, participated in the flash mob chicken dance and also called BINGO at The Gardens.

The employees from Carron Net Company cleaned and organized the work room at The Gardens.

We are so grateful for the time, hard work and energy both groups brought to the FV Campus. Our residents greatly enjoyed connecting with all the volunteers.
