EDGARD, LA (7/1/2024) - History was made yesterday in the 40th Judicial District Court of Louisiana (encompassing St. John the Baptist Parish). Citizens of the Parish welcomed, Felicia Feist as the newly sworn in Clerk of Court, a candidate they voted in last November. The inauguration ceremony was a celebration held in a packed courtroom with those in attendance witnessing the swearing in of the first African American Clerk of Court for the Parish. Ms. Feist was appropriately sworn in by the Honorable Madeline Jasmine, Rtd (who, coincidentally, was the first African American judge elected in the parish).
Ms. Feist was welcomed to elected office by other officials including the outgoing clerk of court Eliana DeFranchesh; St. John Parish President, Jaclyn Hotard; 40th Judicial District Attorney Bridget Dinvaut; State Representative Ken Brass; St. James Parish Clerk of Court, Shane LeBlanc; St. John Parish Councilwomen Tammy Houston and Virgie Johnson; Registrar of Voters Russel Jack; St. John Parish School Board member Shawn Wallace; 40th Judicial District Court Judges Sterling Snowdy, Nghana Lewis and Vercel Fiffie; and, St. John Parish Sheriff Mike Tregre.
Flanked by her family, Ms. Feist Shared encouraging words about meeting the challenge of running for elected office after a dream re-invigorated her faith. A long campaign led to Ms. Feist facing a runoff against Kent St. Amant. But, after displaying her twenty-four years of experience with the clerk’s office; her commitment to excellent customer service; and, her vision for innovations within the office, Ms. Feist was elected by 58 percent of the vote. During her inauguration speech, Ms. Feist expressed gratitude to her husband, mother, children, staff and her election committee while articulating a clear vision for the growth of the office in St. John parish.
The St. John Parish Clerk of Court’s office is located in the courthouse in Edgard, Louisiana and is open to the public.
