Representing Calgary this week, CEO Adam Silver joined a Coast to Coast delegation of Federation leaders from smaller communities across Canada, to Israel. The mission was one of solidarity, learning, and friendship. Adam engaged with family members of hostages and murder victims of October 7, spent time with members of displaced families and communities of our partnership region (Etzba Hagalil), and learned about the challenges and opportunities connected to the future of Northern Israel.
The group visited Kfar Aza and the site of the Nova music festival to bear witness and hear testimonies from family members, spoke with leaders from the Hostages and Missing Families Forum (supported by our Israel Emergency Fund) about the incredible work they are doing, spent time in northern Israel (within a set security zone) to discuss the short- and long-term threats of Hezbollah on the border, as well as strategize with our P2G partners about addressing systemic concerns in their communities, and received updates on initiatives supported by Canadian Emergency Funds.
The theme of the mission was "Real People, Real Stories" and never has an Israel experience been more real. The delegation lifted the morale of the Israelis they met, observed projects that are supported by Canadian funding and leadership, and led discussions about what Israelis are calling "The Day After – The Future of Israel Post-October 7". Am Yisrael Chai!
