Can't Fall Asleep?

World Sleep Day – March 15, 2024

Sleeping is an integral part of our health and the goal of World Sleep Day is to educate all of us about lessening the burden of sleep issues. Not getting enough sleep can cause, or worsen existing, health problems. It is crucial that you try to get enough sleep and talk to a doctor if you are having trouble sleeping regularly.

Importance of Sleep

Sleep is a time when the body regenerates and regulates essential bodily functions. Sleeping around 7-9 hours each night as an adult is important. Not getting enough sleep often can increase your risk of heart disease, diabetes, obesity, cancer and dementia.

Common Sleep Problems

Insomnia: the inability to fall asleep or stay asleep.

Narcolepsy: excessive daytime sleepiness and sudden muscle weakness.

Restless Leg Syndrome: a disorder that causes aches and pains throughout the legs.

Sleep Apnea: an interruption of breathing during sleep throughout the night.

If you think you might have any of these sleep problems, it's important to talk to your doctor about solutions.

Who Wants To Go

Lawn Bowling?

By Larry Hayes, A050 publisher

An Ideal Outdoor Social Sport for Seniors

As many of you know, I love playing USTA tennis and have for 30+ years as player and captain.

When my wife Gloria approached me about “lawn bowling,” my immediate reaction was "no way." I thought it was a slow, boring, ancient game played in England by older folks dressed in all “white."

I was wrong.

In many countries, including England and Australia, both young and

old play the game. Whereas in America, lawn bowling is mostly enjoyed by older adults with the average age 65+. Some play in their 80s and 90s.

The game is simple. Basically, you "roll" your bowls as close as possible to a little white ball called the “jack.” Bigger than a bocce ball, a lawn bowl has a built-in "bias," allowing you to “curve” the bowl to the right or left of the jack. That's what makes the game so challenging and fun.

“How to Successfully Navigate Long-Term Care Insurance Claims"

By Hans Hug

LTCInsuranceClaimsHelp.com

Over the last 26 years, I have helped many people navigate the claims process when filing a Long-Term Care Insurance claim. Some LTC Insurance claims can be a lot of work overtime, often spanning years as the claim proceeds while some are only a few months long.

Some claims are great while others don’t go well for various reasons. Believe it or not, my long experience indicates that it’s generally not the Insurer that’s the problem when things don’t go well.

Wintering In Napa

By Kathy Chin Leong

Raindrops may be falling on our heads but that’s no excuse to avoid Napa Valley. This is the perfect time to visit wine country where winter is synonymous with mustard blooming season.

Fewer crowds, lower hotel rates, only-in-Napa activities and restaurant comfort foods check the boxes for a luxurious vacation.

First, cozy and warm digs is what you want during the days of chill. We chose North Block Hotel, based in Yountville, a town in the middle of Napa Valley.

To the north is mud bath- loving Calistoga and to the south, lies downtown Napa for shopping and dining. The boutique inn is a four-star gem with a Tuscan vibe.

Mustard hues on stucco, wrought iron railings, ivy clad walls and an ornate courtyard water fountain sends you to the heart of Italy. Do treat yourself to a king room with fireplace and balcony. On a frigid night, you will appreciate the eight-pound weighted blankets and deep soaking tub with lavender bath salts.

Our Government. At Work. Again!

By Evelyn Preston, Money Lady

My Trust Attorney, Linda Silveria, has done it again—more 2024 Government legislation! A new requirement affects business ownership. Many seniors and retirees or others in their families, have realized the American Dream by starting their own businesses.

With “ageism” particularly prevalent in Silicon Valley, it’s never too late to fulfill a latent desire to be your own boss. And there are happy tales of small businesses which have substantially grown. Unfortunately, so have Government rules and regulations.

Q: Oh no, not another IRS statute to cope with! Can’t I just hand it off to my tax preparer?

Probably not. This “must-do” compliance concerns business ownership. It’s not tax related and comes straight from the Federal Government Bureau of the U.S. Treasury. Due by the end of 2024, a new online reporting form will be required from almost all businesses having a beneficial ownership (25% owned by one person or group): Corporations, LLC’s, Partnerships, etc. Trusts are not exempt.

Movie Review

By Larry Hayes

Bob Marley: One Love

I remember Bob Marley, the legendary Jamaican singer of reggae and rock from the 60s and 70s so, it was a trip down memory lane to see the musical biopic: Bob Marley: One Love.

Love the music! A tribute to Bob Marley's legacy. So much great music, highly entertaining--a big hit grossing over $80 million at the box office. One of the best movies I've seen in a long time.

His message to the world: peace, love, hope and justice. He died at age 36 in 1981 of melanoma.

The World Needs Another Bob Marley.
