We recently had our annual Orem City Council retreat, where we discussed our challenges and successes from the past year as we move forward into 2023. Together we set goals as a City Council to make Orem a better place to live, work, and focus on being “Family City USA.” Here are a few of the priorities we discussed:

• Focusing on our brand, Family City USA
• State Street redevelopment and beautification plan
• Protecting our neighborhoods from high-density developments
• Thriving and balanced business environment
• Emergency preparations

I’m looking forward to what this year will bring for Orem, and I appreciate all the hard work of our Mayor and my fellow Council members. Local government plays a crucial role in shaping the communities where we live. I also can’t say enough about the dedicated employees who serve our city. They are often unseen as they keep things running and respond to our greatest needs. 

As we move forward, let’s remember that we are all on the same team (Team Orem). By working together and listening to each other, we keep Orem the best place to raise a family and run a business.

They say that good things come to those that wait and a good thing just showed up this week. Due to the dreaded supply chain, we've been waiting on the new and improved leisure pool play structure for months! Thankfully the wait is over and assembly can begin at the Orem Family Fitness Center pool.

Starting Monday, Feb 13, our leisure pool area will be under construction. During the construction of the pool, the lap pool temperature will be raised temporarily to accommodate our variety of swimmers. Lap pool hours and availability will not change during this closure. The Leisure pool including slide and lazy river will be closed for the entirety of construction. All swim lessons will be moved to lap pool.

Everyone is familiar with the Five Love Languages: words of affirmation, acts of service, receiving gifts, quality time, and physical touch. We would argue that there are actually six love languages and the sixth one is FOOD.

Every year we celebrate Valentine's Day by giving away gift cards to Orem restaurants. All you have to do is jump on our Facebook page or Instagram account and tag the eatery you want to go to and the person you would love to take with you. We'll pick winners from both Facebook and Instagram so double your chances by commenting on both accounts.

The contest will start on Friday, Feb. 10th so be sure to check our social media! We'll contact the winners on Monday, Feb. 13th.

The annual Hope4Orem Senior Scholarship application is now open to all high school seniors attending an Orem school. The application process includes just one short essay focused on your definition of kindness and how you put kindness in action. The deadline is March 1st.
