At Clay Counseling, we believe culture is an integral part of our humanity and a powerful component of mental health. We aspire to integrate and incorporate culture into the healing process. As such, we are pleased to recognize Black History Month and share little known facts of its origins:
The history of our beautiful country is colored with many great accomplishments and heroic people. In 1909, the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) founded Black history month in an intentional effort to preserve the nation’s history as it relates the contributions of African American people. Black History Month was recognized nationally by President Ford in 1976 and has been officially recognized every year in February since that time. Likewise, the United Kingdom, Canada and other countries around the world have started devoting a month to celebrating Black History. This leap year, we are honored to share Black History with you. #strongertogether
