This training focuses on supervision and program management for adult staff. It addresses the roles and responsibilities of supervisors, communication, work relationships, program management, and the specific supervision of staff.

The Mel King Institute Certificate offers a new way to engage with our programming through a more comprehensive experience. By taking a range of existing MKI courses, this program provides an overview of the basic skills, knowledge, and values that underlie the work of community development in Massachusetts.

What do we mean by “ emotional intelligence ” and why is it so critical to our ability to build relationships in our lives and at work? It is more critical than ever to have true self-awareness and self-management skills in order to tackle challenges and create change.

In this highly participatory workshop students will:

  • Examine Daniel Goleman's EI model
  • Use the quadrant competencies to practice self-assessment
  • and Strengthen EI competencies by seeing how the framework plays out in all aspects of life

Racial Equity Facilitators Feedback Circle
Last year MKI and TSNE MissionWorks partnered to hold Regroup sessions for participants of a Transforming White Privilege Train-the-trainer session we held in Oct. 2018. This group meets 3-4 times a year and is now open to anyone who facilitates Racial Equity trainings, conversations, etc. Please email Fehintola at fehintolaa@macdc.org if you are interested in joining the Racial Equity Facilitators (REFs) Feedback Circle. Our next meeting is on March 5, 2020 .
Our Business Development Certificate Program a partnership between Cambridge College , Lawyers for Civil Rights , Mel King Institute , and Massachusetts Growth Capital Corporation (MGCC) successfully began on January 22, 2020 with 26 students! We are excited for the next few weeks of building up Technical Assistance capacity for Small Business TA providers in MA.

Public Housing Training Program 

This training helps participants handle challenges unique to their particular role as both a resident and a Board Member of a public housing authority. Participants learn about the role of the Board Member, take an in-depth look at budgets and capital improvement plans, and receive a free resource binder.
