Other Action Steps and Details
We would love to remind everyone that the member page of the website is the best place to go to see this type of content, check the calendar for all planned events and donation links.

We would prefer not to only rely on posts to our members only Facebook page as many are navigating away from Facebook. Please do check the page regularly as we also strive not to send quite as many emails this year.

EWA Call Details
The EWA monthly meetings are is every 2nd Thursday of the Month. The meetings are usually at 1pm CST but can change depending on the featured speaker. We typically don’t get notice in advance of these meetings so it might be a good idea to note on your calendar and keep an eye out for monthly newsletters.

The next EWA monthly conversation is coming up TODAY, Thursday, 2/11 at 1 p.m. CST with special guest Karen Defilippi, VP of Federal and Gubernatorial Campaigns at Emily’s List. Karen will be providing a brief overview of the political landscape for women running for U.S. Senate and Governor’s seats and the opportunities for recruitment. We are looking forward to exploring our potential role in advocating for the recruitment of more women with an emphasis on women of color.

Karen Defilippi Bio
Karen Defilippi is a seasoned political operative, strategist, and manager, with experience spanning competitive races around the country, the premier organization electing Democratic, pro-choice women, and the halls of Congress.
As EMILY’s List’s Vice President of Federal and Gubernatorial Campaigns, Karen oversees the recruitment and campaigns of all EMILY’s List women running for governor or the United States Senate or House. In 2018, Karen led a team to endorse and support almost 100 Congressional and statewide campaigns, tripling the number of Democratic women governors, delivering the only Democratic flips in the U.S. Senate, and electing 34 new Democratic women to the House—enough to deliver the Democratic majority alone.
In her current role, Karen is a member of the EMILY’s List Senior Leadership Team and is involved in the organization’s management and strategic decisions, including managing a department budget and investment decisions for all federal and gubernatorial races as a part of the organization’s $110 million budget. Karen is the lead liaison for these races with elected officials, Democratic stakeholders, progressive organizations, and labor unions. She manages and navigates political relationships across 50 states with these key political actors, both on behalf of EMILY’s List and for gubernatorial and Congressional candidates.

Throughout her tenure at EMILY’s List she has prioritized increasing the number of women of color running for and winning elected office. She helped build one of the most diverse campaigns teams at the organization and guided an unprecedented level of bundling dollars to women of color. In 2020, with the support of EMILY’s List and Karen’s leadership, despite a net loss of members, the number of Democratic women in the House caucus increased.

Karen is also a veteran of congressional races, multiple statewide races, then-Senator Clinton’s 2008 presidential campaign, and Capitol Hill having worked for numerous members including as Chief of Staff to Representative Debbie Dingell (MI-13).

Karen is widely regarded as a savvy strategist, effective and collegial manager, and tenacious operative. Originally from Pittsburgh, Karen now lives in Washington, D.C. with her wife, daughter, and aging dog and cat.
