Mobile Produce

Did you know that each month The Food Bank of Manatee, a PLUS program of Meals on Wheels PLUS of Manatee, distributes fresh produce free of charge at mobile produce distribution locations in Manatee County? On the third Thursday of the month, we drive our trucks to locations in 34208, 34203, and 34221 zip codes to provide fresh produce free of charge! Why a mobile distribution? Because many people in our community don’t have access to transportation which creates a barrier to access. By going directly into parts of our community where there is a high need for access, we are making fresh fruits and vegetables more accessible. If you or someone you know need access to fresh fruits and vegetables, please visit us at one of our Mobile Produce Pantry distributions. More information can be found on our website here: https://mealsonwheelsplus.org/food-bank-of-manatee/mobile-produce-pantry/

The Mobile Produce program is in need of funding for 2024. If you are a supporter who is interested in helping to fund this program in 2024, please contact Amy Towery, VP of Development at 941-747-4655 X1238.

Home-delivered Meals Provide Life-Saving Nutrition

Through our Home-delivered Meals program, seniors in Manatee County receive meals, fresh fruits and vegetables, and also pet food to assist them in living independently in their homes. About ¼ of our Home-delivered Meal clients are also enrolled in our Nutrition Addition program. The Nutrition Addition program offers supplemental food, outside our regular meal delivery, available to clients who have a high need for additional nutrition. Bags of non-perishable food items are delivered one time each month and include items such as canned fruits and vegetables, cereal bars, canned proteins, and healthy snack items.

The Nutrition Addition program is in need of funding for 2024. If you are interested in learning more about how you can help, please contact Amy Towery, VP of Development at 941-747-4655 X1238.

YES! I WANT TO DONATE TO HELP SENIORS IN NEED!

Clients Enjoy SingFit and Kahoot at Daybreak Adult Day Center

Kahoot is a valuable tool at Daybreak. This app-based program promotes cognitive engagement and social interaction among all the clients. Its interactive quizzes, games, and short stories enhance mental agility, foster a sense of community, and create an enjoyable learning environment for all. Kahoot is used for all armchair travel destinations as well as our monthly nutrition education programs.

The SingFit program is a HUGE hit and offers a lot of benefits. Music has the power to uplift spirits, stimulate memory recall, and enhance emotional well-being among seniors. Engaging in group singing activities not only creates a sense of camaraderie but also provides a joyful experience.

Volunteer Spotlight: Pat at Daybreak

Our thanks to Pat, for being an outstanding volunteer. Pat moved here from Massachusetts in 2009 to be closer to family, and she worked at Meals On Wheels PLUS for 12 years before retiring. She came back to volunteer at Daybreak Adult Day Center because she enjoys the people there so much.

"I love Daybreak - all the people here. The clients, you think that we are taking care of them but I learn so much from them, the history of their lives. They enjoy each other and everyone gets along. The people who work here - they are very dedicated. I wouldn't volunteer anywhere else."

Thank you Pat, for your dedication!
