February 2021 Heart Connections

In February, 36 pets made heart connections with their forever families. Our thanks to adopters for welcoming these amazing pets into their hearts and homes! Above are just a few of the new matches made this month. Want to make your own heart connection?! Adoptions continue to be conducted by appointment only. To begin the adoption process:  Visit our Adoption Process webpage or Petfinder to view the homeless pets searching for a heart connection. Complete the adoption questionnaire available under each individual pet page. Expedite processing by calling your veterinarian and granting him/her permission to share information about your pets’ records with us. Once approved, a member of our Adoption Team will schedule a time for you to meet your match! February 2021 Shelter Snapshot February was another great month for adoptions and and transfers through our Highway to Home program. We are grateful to all who made it so! The generous support of staff, volunteers, and donors enables GMHS to provide daily care, cover special medical needs, foster animals in homes as needed, and arrange transportation to adoption-guaranteed partners. We are also committed to education, outreach, and transparency. Our annual statistics are available on our website, and we also offer you a monthly snapshot.

Spay/Neuter Awareness Month February was Spay/Neuter Awareness Month! Spay/neuter is a win-win-win. Pets win because they live longer, healthier, and happier lives. Owners win because they can afford to do the best thing for their beloved pet. And, our community wins because the number of unwanted pets filling shelters and abandoned is reduced. In February 2021 alone, 225 cats and 110 dogs were altered at the clinic! Fixin' to Save Spay & Neuter Clinic Director Cassandra Six shares, "Spaying and neutering has a significant impact on our community. Just one unaltered female dog and her offspring can produce 67,000 puppies in only six years. In seven years, one female cat and her offspring can produce an incredible 370,000 kittens! By offering affordable spay/neuter services and with continuing community support and commitment to having animals spayed and neutered, we hope to alter as many animals as possible to help control the pet population." Compassionate Community

Logan generously asked his friends and family members to donate items for our pets awaiting their forever homes instead of giving him birthday gifts. He is pictured with all the donations he collected. Happy 11th birthday, Logan, and thank you for sharing your heart for homeless pets with GMHS!

Many thanks to those who have donated toys, food, and other specialty goods to GMHS! These donations help homeless pets feel more comfortable in the shelter while they wait for their forever home. Our greatest need continues to be canned dog food and crunchy and chewy dog treats.

Our friends at Backyard Birder Seed & Supply, Tangled Up Salon, Creekside Cafe & Market, and The Wild Horse Country Cafe & Malt Shoppe are actively raising funds for GMHS' Angel Fund through the sale of masks handcrafted by Volunteer Groomer Shelley. Made with love, the masks continue to be available for purchase at each business. One hundred percent of the purchase price benefits the Angel Fund, which covers the cost of extraordinary veterinary care for shelter pets. Thank you for your life-saving partnership!
