MESSAGE FROM THE PRESIDENT
Community. Each month, I get to use this space to share some of the noteworthy events that have taken place in BOMA/GLA. However, this month I want to focus on the central theme of community.
Last month we installed our 2023 Board of Directors and our new Chairman of the Board, Gary Hansel, at the return of our Real Estate Forecast lunch; the Downtown Regional Council hosted their regional roundtable which included a PacMutual building tour; we held our first annual Board, Staff, and Platinum Partner Dinner to celebrate the start of a new year; and we launched this year’s Rising Star Program with a Meet & Greet Orientation.
What these events had in common was the palpable buzz in the air of members connecting, introducing, networking, and catching-up with one another. There are so many ways to learn and improve in your position or your business; you can read blogs, attend webinars, listen to podcasts, binge YouTube videos to name a few. But regardless of how much chatter there may be around a hashtag, it does not compare to the energy in a room full of professionals who want to learn something new, form new relationships, or even improve their brand. Community is created and sustained by being together.
You do not have to be a master networker to be part of the BOMA/GLA community. While there are those who are born networkers, for many of us it can be a challenge. But breaking out of your comfort zone is just the type of action we need to take to break out of old ways of thinking.
Here are a few ways to get active in the community today:
Connect with your region. Regional Roundtables are smaller, regionally focused programs that provide opportunities for networking and exchanging ideas with peers who share the region’s experience.
Join a Special Interest Group (SIG). SIG’s are designed to bring members with like interests together in an environment that fosters learning and professional growth through shared experiences.
Volunteer on a committee. There are 20 committees, each covering different programs and initiatives without BOMA/GLA. Working on a committee helps you build stronger relationships and leads to uncovering business insights you can utilize in your personal and professional development.
Don’t miss out on these opportunities! Participating in the organization provides a one-of-a-kind opportunity to meet new people, expand your knowledge base, have a good time, and be part of a community. Our Member Engagement staff is here to assist you in getting started. Send an email to membership@bomagla.org to get in touch.
