Today's Leaders to Help WNC Students Become Tomorrow's Leaders
Western Nevada College students are encouraged to attend the 2024 Student Leadership Summit on Friday, April 12, on the Carson City campus. The summit will be a great opportunity for students to participate in a student panel discussion, learn leadership skills from breakout presentations and notable speakers, win raffle prizes and receive free swag. Lunch will also be provided.
Nurses Hold 50/50 Raffle Fundraiser
Support your future nurses and win some money in the process. The National Student Nurses Association (WNC chapter) is holding a 50/50 raffle. Purchase one ticket for $5 or five for $20. Proceeds will help WNC nurses attend the national convention in Orlando, Fla. The drawing is March 19, with the winner receiving half of the money collected. Ruby Barrientos' Roots Art Exhibit on Display through April 12 in Bristlecone
Reno artist Ruby Barrientos honors her Mayan ancestry in the Raices (Roots) Art Exhibit, which will be shown through April 12 in the Bristlecone Gallery at Western Nevada College. The exhibit includes mixed media, sculptures, drawings and prodigious paintings and is presented by Capital City Arts Initiative.

Helping retrain Nevadans to become key contributors to the state’s economy, ROADS supports qualified participants with the costs of training in high-demand career areas (i.e., Automotive Mechanics, Machine Tool Technology, Advanced Manufacturing, Healthcare, Construction, Computer Information Technology, CDL and Welding). The program includes career preparation activities and can cover costs related to tuition, certifications, training related supplies, and more. Individuals interested in additional mentorship and support with career preparation, professional

WNMTC to Present Revised Version of 'Cinderella' in Eight May Performances
The Western Nevada Musical Theatre Company will present the new Broadway version of Rodgers and Hammerstein's “Cinderella” in eight performances at the Carson City Community Center on weekends May 10-19. This acclaimed new version of the classic fairy tale features a revised script that adds depth and wit to the characters, animated by brilliant new orchestrations and stunning choreography. 
College for Kids Is Back! iLead Camps for Ages 9 and Up Scheduled for June
WNC is proud to announce the return of College for Kids with three sessions of iLead, a summer leadership camp for children and teens ages 9 and up. iLead is designed for students who want to make a difference by giving them the confidence to step into leadership. Led by Seeliger Elementary School teacher Rayce Malmed, iLead will be offered June 3-7, June 10-14 and June 24-28.

Rural Community College Alliance Names President Dalpe to Board
Western Nevada College President Dr. J. Kyle Dalpe has been appointed to the Rural Community College Alliance (RCCA) Board of Directors. The RCCA assists its member institutions in meeting the higher education needs and solving challenges for more than 89 million people who dwell in rural America.

Chamber to Honor Niki Gladys at Women of Achievement Luncheon
Celebrate International Women's Day on March 8 as the Carson City Chamber of Commerce honors incredible women from the community with a luncheon at Gold Dust West. The Chamber has selected Western Nevada College Executive Director of Advancement Niki Gladys among 10 phenomenal women for the prestigious Women of Achievement 2024 Award.
WNC Graduate Palmer Places Fourth in World Aquatics Championships in Qatar
Western Nevada College alumna Krysta Palmer continued her excellence on the world diving stage. Palmer paired with Alison Gibson in the women's 3-meter synchronized diving event, securing a spot in this event for the U.S. in the Paris Olympic Games this summer.
Peters to Pitch for Rangers' Triple-A Club in the Pacific Coast League
Former Western Nevada College baseball star DJ Peters signed a minor-league deal in early February with the Texas Rangers. Despite Peters’ propensity to hit home runs for the Rangers in 2021, they are grooming him as a pitcher. He’ll start the season with the Round Rock Express, the Rangers’ Triple A club in the Pacific Coast League.

Professor Profiles: Dr. Brigitte Dillet's Love of Teaching Started in France
Western Nevada College students are really fortunate to have the teaching experience of Dr. Brigitte Dillet for their geology and geography classes. After all, Dr. Dillet has been teaching at WNC since 1995. Students may not know that Dr. Dillet is an accomplished rock climber.

Nursing Job Fair Provides Students with Connections, Professional Development
WNC’s first- and second-year nursing students, as well as Certified Nursing Assistant students, visited with representatives of hospitals, health care facilities, higher education programs and more during the Tuesday, Feb. 20, event in WNC’s Carson Nugget Hall on the Carson City campus. More than 120 WNC students participated.
The Man Behind the Willy Mask: Mascot Scholarship Helps Student Attend WNC
Addison Hopkins needed a way to move halfway across the country to live near his mother in Carson City. He also wanted to start his college education but didn’t have the means to do so. Fortunately for Addison, WNC was seeking a mascot to bring energy and enthusiasm to its special events, and per chance, had a scholarship available for this individual.
Students Still Have Multiple Options to Enroll in Spring 2024 Semester
Opportunities to enroll in Spring 2024 Semester at WNC didn’t end when classes began back in January. There still are options to become a student this semester. Western offers open entry, late-start and short-term courses over the remainder of the semester, which concludes on May 18.
Graduating Students Must Apply for Commencement Ceremony by March 1
For students eligible to receive a degree or certificate in Spring 2024, they must fill out a grad application for Admissions and Records by March 1. The fee is $25. Apply online at wnc.edu/admissions/graduation.
Nursing Program Entrance Exam Dates Offered in March
Students must complete the entrance exam no later than during April 1 to be considered for admissions into the Fall 2024 Nursing program.

Montanucci Family Memorializes Inspirational Daughter with Scholarship
Through the encouragement of a family friend, Fallon’s parents, Paula and Eddie, have established a scholarship at WNC in memory of their 22-year-old daughter who tragically died in 2022. Fallon lived an inspirational life with her patriotism, devotion to higher education, selflessness and philanthropy.
State CIO Summit at Western Focuses on Artificial Intelligence
Artificial Intelligence Technologies in Government was the focus of the State CIO Summit on Feb. 23 in Western Nevada College's Carson Nugget Hall. Dave Riske, WNC professor of computer and information technologies, was part of an expert panel discussing “Shaping the Future of Technology through AI.”
NHSE Regent Perkins Takes CDL Simulator for A Test Drive

Lectures, Star Parties Highlight Saturday Nights at Observatory
Experience the universe and utilize a variety of telescopes to view the phenomenal stars from Western Nevada College's Jack C. Davis Observatory. Saturday night Star Parties are from dusk to 11 p.m. at the facility, located at 2269 Vanpatten Ave. A presentation about Artificial Intelligence is set for March 16 at 6:30 p.m.
