A-Tech students have been working on rebuilding a TV news anchor set donated by WJET-TV for A-Tech's Multimedia program at Lakeside High School.

The news set had to be delivered to A-Tech in sections due to its size. This meant our Construction Technology students had to determine which pieces to use, how they fit together, and how to best assemble them. Once assembled they collaborated with Electricity students to reassemble the lighting.

When the students had the set fully operational in their lab at A-Tech, they disassembled it, tagged the pieces, loaded it into the trailer, and delivered it to Lakeside, where they reassembled it.

"I am grateful for the opportunity our students had to rebuild the

news set. It presented a unique set of obstacles for the students to overcome and helped them learn to collaborate," said Anthony Warren, Construction Technology instructor. "They were able to utilize some of the different

trade skills that are part of this program. Overall, I am very pleased with all of

their hard work, and I hope that the A-Tech Multimedia program at

Lakeside can use the set for many years to come."

Students in the A-Tech Multimedia program at Lakeside created a time-lapse

video of the news set being reassembled in their lab.

Government Classes Learn About Reapportionment

Clinton Rand worked on creating a district map with mostly "yellow party" members.

Students in Alison Dunn's Government classes are learning

about the house district reapportionment that follows each census.

Students were given a map featuring the "Yellow" and "Purple"

parties and tasked with creating nine districts on the map that would

favor one party, all while maintaining an equal number of

hexagons (representing people) in each district.

"After learning about how the results of the census affect the number of representatives a state may have, students took on the role of the state in crafting new districts. They saw firsthand the various factors that are considered in creating representative districts to reflect the demographics of an area and potentially giving political advantages," said Dunn.
