Reaching Out to New and Potential Technicians
On Saturday, January 27, the St Louis Chapter welcomed 15 registrants to Southern Illinois University Edwardsville for hands-on skill mastering. The food was great, the teachers were great, and the students were terrific. We had technicians from three states attend the all-day event: Missouri, Illinois, and Indiana.
Participant Michael Pitts had this to say: “As someone just starting my path as a piano technician, the all day format to review the PACE Repair lessons was excellent way to get an overview of repair skills I need to practice. It was well worth the four hour drive from Indianapolis to St Louis to join everyone at this great event! Hopefully I’ll be able to attend future events like this.”
At Brigham Young University, nearly 100 people from across three states participated in the Salt Lake City Chapter Technicians Playground Event in late January. The chapter ordered all 14 playground stations and BYU provided tools and jigs to double the number of stations. Experienced chapter members were recruited to serve as facilitators for each station and several spouses volunteered their time to staff the registration booth. Lunch was provided on site and Jim Busby even had some of his DIY tools available to anyone who completed a required number of stations. The four-hour event was attended by both PTG members and many complete beginners, including students of the BYU School of Music. The Technicians Playground and PACE lesson plans are great ready-to-use hands-on programs or you can create your own.
