IDDSI 2024
The power of many volunteers…
|
|
Volunteer Appreciation Nominations: The deadline for nominations for our Volunteer Appreciation Hall is approaching soon – be sure to get your nomination in by March 15, 2024.

IDDSI would not exist without the energy and commitment of volunteers. From the beginning, when a group of volunteers met together to dream about a common global language for dysphagia diets to the implementation projects of the over 50 IDDSI Reference Groups around the world, volunteers have powered IDDSI forward.
Changing an existing system is challenging and we applaud the many volunteers who have taken this on and successfully implemented IDDSI within their organizations, regions and countries. Ensuring IDDSI is accessible globally requires translation of the Framework, Testing Methods and Resources and once again, we would not have these wonderful resources without the time and energy of volunteers. We have had wonderful volunteers come forward to generously share their knowledge and experience on IDDSI related topics through the free webinars offered.
The IDDSI Board of Directors remains a board of committed volunteers. We are tremendously grateful to past board members and excited by the energy and commitment of our new board members.

It was wonderful to see many presentations using IDDSI and many thanks to past board co-chair, Dr. Julie Cichero and past board member, Dr. Catriona Steele for sharing their wisdom and perspectives on the topic & theme of Evidence review of thickener.
|
|
Dr. Catriona Steele’s presentation: Evidence regarding the efficacy of thickened liquids and an algorithm for appropriate use can be viewed here: https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=DtT8z1hqxI4
Dr. Ben Hanson kindly reminded the audience that IDDSI is a standardised framework for naming, defining and testing modified food textures and drink thickness. IDDSI does not take positions on clinical practice, nor endorse, promote or certify any particular products, programs or services.
Congratulations to the UKSRG for organizing such a wonderful and successful conference!

Mara Cecchetti, discussed the thesis "NEUROGENIC DYSPHAGIA AND MALNUTRITION: CREATION OF A THERAPEUTIC EDUCATION TOOL FOR SAFE AND FUNCTIONAL NUTRITION" and Arianna Castegnaro discussed the thesis "NEUROGENIC DYSPHAGIA AND SOCIAL ISOLATION: THE INTRODUCTION OF FOODS WITH MODIFIED CONSISTENCY IN THE EDUCATIONAL COURSE OF HOTEL INSTITUTE STUDENTS" for both, the speaker was Dr. Katia Nardi, dietitian at Hospital/University of Pisa. Part of both thesis's (dealing with neurogenic dysphagia and part of the same project) was the development of a recipe book with the IDDSI levels. View the entire recipe book attached here

Event: Aim for the Moon and Reach the Stars - Global Impact of IDDSI
Presented by former IDDSI Co-Chair, Dr Julie Cichero
Date: March 21, 2024 / 2:00 PM Sydney time
To see your local time, click on Show In My Time Zone
Session Description: The IDDSI initiative commenced in 2012 culminating in the publication of the IDDSI Framework in 2017, updated in 2019 to include Level 7 Easy to Chew. The decade since the introduction of IDDSI has seen widespread professional, geographic and cultural adoption. IDDSI provides a common language through standardised terminology and importantly testing methods that is facilitating new avenues of growth in the dysphagia field. IDDSI has accelerated research into food texture, chewing and choking risk and enabled new conversations about classification of the thickness of liquid medication. This presentation will examine IDDSI’s global impact.
