Spring is approaching us quickly! It is a great time to start thinking about planting new trees and shrubs. This is a great way to contribute to the canopy coverage in your city. The standard canopy coverage for a grassland city is about 30%, currently in the city of Denver the canopy coverage is at 4%. City of Lakewood is at 16%. To go from 16% to 30% we would need to plant just over 600 trees. Overall, only 34.4% of Colorado is forested. A healthy percentage is around 49%. Canopy cover plays an important role in ecosystems by providing habitat for animals and in regulating local temperatures, water storage in the soil, and soil health. Trees have been shown to create healthy environments for people by improving air quality and reducing heat island effects. New York City saw a significant decrease of asthma in young children (-29%) after increasing its tree canopy through the installation of over 300 trees for each square kilometer (Lovasi et al. 2008). Studies have also shown that individuals with views or access to greenspace tend to be healthier; employees experience 23% less sick time and greater job satisfaction, and hospital patients recover faster with fewer drugs (Ulrich 1984). So do your part to help us all be healthier. Contact us today for your tree planting estimate.

Dormant Pruning

Dormant pruning is a must for fruit trees such as Pears, Crabapples, and Hawthorns. Now is the best time to remove diseases such as fireblight. It might be impossible to completely eliminate fire blight from your fruit trees, so it is important to manage the disease with regular pruning and treatment. If left unchecked, fire blight can rapidly spread through your trees and move from one tree to another.

Winter storms are a common threat to the safety of our trees and properties. Strong winds can weaken stressed limbs and roots causing severe damage. Pruning trees now can mitigate future storm damage

We offer a 10% discount for pruning and removals authorized between now and March 1st.
