Happy Mardi Gras, y'all! Let the good times roll...
As the craziness of 2017 keeps on chugging right along, we thank you again for your appreciation of the importance of music! If you're looking for something to help brighten your day, please feel free to use Mardi Gras season as an excuse to check out some music of New Orleans. From the roots of Jazz (Jelly Roll Morton, Louis Armstrong) to early Rhythm & Blues (Little Richard, Fats Domino) to Soul classics (Allen Toussaint, Aaron Neville) to heavy Funk (The Meters, Galactic), you pretty much can't go wrong with a NOLA soundtrack.
But back to business here on the West Coast...
We have some exciting news for you this month, including a new, FREE chance to play more music, plus the start of our Spring Sessions for ensembles. New bands are forming, and previous bands needs some new members. Please read downward & onward for the details.

Congrats to Eric Zheng! Eric will receive not only priceless glory & endless bragging rights, but also gift certificates to Music Time Academy & Livermore Cinemas.
|
|
Eric is the ONLY tenor saxophone student at Music Time Academy! He is doing a great job of representing us all though, as he has held the coveted first chair in Jazz band for two years now.
Even more impressive than earning and keeping first chair in school Jazz band, is the fact that Eric only first picked up the instrument a few months before auditioning. Eric was able to see his hard work and practice pay off as he not only made it into the band, but quickly rose up through the ranks. Way to go, Eric! Your dedication and motivation are inspirational to us all. Keep up the great work!

Brian began his passion for music at age 11, when he started playing orchestral drums in school band, as his skills developed he decided to start gigging in a rock band at age 16, and eventually went on to earn his B.A. from Berklee College of Music in 2001. There Brian specialized in Funk/Jazz, Afro-Cuban, Brazilian, Prog-rock, and West African music.
|
|
|
Touring nationally for the last 5 years, including as far north as Alaska and even down to Mexico, with The Real Nasty and now with Dead Winter Carpenters, Brian has evolved as a drummer and musician. He has played major music festivals, like High Sierra Music Festival, Northwest String Summit, Delfest, and Floydfest, and has shared the stage with talented musicians, which has helped increase his musical awareness.
Outside of stage performances, Brian also brings studio recording experience to his lessons, having recorded multiple albums with four different bands. He loves to share studio tips with his students so they are better prepared overall for their future musical endeavors.
Brian’s taste for music extends beyond traditional Western sounds and includes a love for Brazilian and West African music. He has explored these rhythms all the way to Ghana in West Africa and Salvador, Brazil. These musical traditions have influenced his playing, listening, and teaching styles, blossoming his passion for teaching.

ALO Sing-Along for Kids
ALO’s Family Funtime Fillmore Sing A Long combines story telling, interactive puppets, surprise guests, classic sing alongs and ALO’s original music to create a fun and creative event for the whole family. Dancing, singing and laughing are all encouraged!
ALO is more than a band. It’s a musical relationship that has endured for over two decades, with band members playing in numerous projects together and apart. Following the 2012 release of their freewheeling Sounds Like This, the band took time off to work on various side projects. Zach Gill (keys/vocals) toured the world with the band’s college pal Jack Johnson; Dan “Lebo” Lebowitz (guitar/vocals) played shows with the Grateful Dead’s Phil Lesh; Steve Adams (bass/vocals) toured and recorded with Nicki Bluhm & the Gramblers; Dave Brogan (drums/vocals) joined up with Utah band, Mokie. These and other endeavors have influenced the band’s new album Tangle Of Time.
