This psalm is a "Maskil" from David himself. The precise meaning of a maskil has been lost since ancient times, but it is believed to be a wisdom psalm that speaks to the realities of life. In this psalm David speaks movingly of the angst involved in not confessing sin in our lives. Keeping a confession away from God can allow guilt and shame to sap life out of us. Sin counts against us, but the Lord does not want us to wallow in it. Only by being transparent with God can we begin to be freed from the grips of iniquity. Acknowledge your sin, include forgiveness everyday in your prayers. Check out verses 1 and 2 of the psalm on this link -- they will encourage you...
Lord, forgive me of my sins and my shortcomings today. Help me to be reflective in my meditations, so I can clearly see where I transgress Your ways. Thank you for being my Savior - dying on the cross so that I may have abundant life today! AMEN
