Walk-In SHIELD Testing will Begin on September 27

The first day of SHIELD testing is scheduled for Tuesdays beginning on Sept. 27, 2022, in the Boardroom at Joseph E. Hill Education Center (JEH), 1500 Mcdaniel Avenue, Evanston, from 7:30am-9:30am. By Friday, Sept. 23, students and D65 staff should have received a laminated QR code. You must have that QR code in order to participate in SHIELD testing. Anyone who comes for testing at JEH must have their QR code. If students or staff do not have a QR code, please contact your school's health office. It may be helpful for families or staff to take a picture of their QR code to keep on their phone in case it is ever lost. If you are participating in SHIELD testing, you should not eat or drink (except for water) an hour before the test. Families will receive a text, phone message, and email communication if their child receives a Positive COVID-19 SHIELD test result. You can also access your child’s SHIELD test results by creating an account and following these directions.

Baking The Smart Cookie Soundscape with D65’s Alyssa Zuravel

Novel Effect is the award-winning, free storytime app that brings books of all kinds to life using voice. A team of world-class composers, musicians, sound designers, writers, and voice actors thoughtfully create interactive music, sounds, and character voices for each book in the Novel Effect library.

When it came time to create the soundscape for Jory John’s book, ‘The Smart Cookie,’ a Kingsley Elementary School kindergarten teacher, Alyssa Zuravel, auditioned and was selected to perform the voice of ‘the Cupcake.’

Zuravel was tasked with recording her lines, capturing multiple variations in tone, volume, intonation, and speed. Congratulations, Alyssa Zuravel!

Take a listen to Zuravel reading ‘The Smart Cookie’!

The D65 Caregiver Council for Disability Inclusion (CCDI, formerly known as SEPAC) is a caregiver-run group for families of children with disabilities in District 65 focused on facilitating a sense of belonging for these students in all aspects of school life. We are busy planning activities for the 2022-23 school year, starting with our first meeting, over Zoom, on Monday, October 3 from 6:30pm-8:00pm. This meeting will include a presentation by the administration about current and ongoing initiatives taken to increase awareness of disability and facilitate inclusion and belonging for our kids. Everyone is welcome to attend! Zoom Meeting Link. Spanish interpretation will be available.

To join CCDI and keep up with what we are doing, please sign up for the email list at this link: CCDI Email List Sign-up.
