Remember that debit cards and SNAP EBT cards are welcome at all the Farmers Markets in St. Lawrence County.
Volunteers Needed for
Farmers Markets

GardenShare is seeking volunteers to help support and strengthen each of the Farmers Markets in St. Lawrence County.  There are two primary volunteer jobs related to the markets and any individual volunteer could do one of them or even both of them.

Farmers Market Manager Assistant   - This volunteer position supports the market manager in a particular market.  The job is to be at the market manager's table to answer questions, provide information about the market and GardenShare, and to process SNAP, debit, and credit card transactions.  GardenShare will provide training and then the market manager will schedule the volunteers - either on a regular schedule or an on-call schedule when they need someone to fill in for a whole or partial market day.

Farmers Market / SNAP Outreach   - Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP, formerly known as food stamps) outreach volunteers will help to promote the awareness and use of SNAP-EBT benefits at local Farmers Markets in St. Lawrence County on an individual basis and in group environments.  Volunteers will also provide information, and share materials and resources to engage and educate people while helping them learn and feel comfortable about the market environment.

"I like the Farmers Market and the whole environment." said Curtis Legault while volunteering on a recent Friday at the Canton Farmers Market.   "My main goal is helping people and to help our community thrive.  Farmers work hard to bring their product to market and we need to support all of that hard work."  Legault volunteers at the Canton Farmers Market with a team of his coworkers from Maplewood and even assists with training new volunteers.

Thank You for an Amazing
Annual Dinner!

GardenShare's Annual Dinner and Auction was held on June 14, 2016 and was a very successful event.  Eighty people registered for the dinner at Jake's on the Water in Hannawa Falls.  The team at Jake's outdid themselves with an amazing meal sourced from local farmers - so much so that those in attendance gave chef Josh Taillon a standing ovation at the end of the meal!  When we finished up that evening, $6,000 had been raised to support GardenShare's work to solve the problem of hunger in St. Lawrence County!

In addition to ticket sales, business sponsors of the event were important contributors to those fundraising results.  Presenting sponsors for the event were St. Lawrence Health System and Stauffer Farms.  Partnership sponsors were County Seat Realty, Green Hammer Construction, and North Country Savings Bank.  Friend sponsors were Coakley ACE Hardware Stores, Community Bank, Conboy Law Firm, Glow Skincare and Spa, and Save-a-Lot.

For a complete list of donors, go here.  To see a short video about the event, go here.

Thank you to the volunteers who organized this event, to all of the sponsors and auction donors, to the team at Jake's on the Water, and to everyone who attended for making this such a success!
