Take Ten with Father Ken

"It’s in the giving that we receive”.

Dear Robert,

In the true wine-making business, I can see myself awaiting the realization of that potential goodness from our grapes. All the love, work, and care…while being vulnerable to the weather, economy, and competition…is Real!

Yes, the “market” to BE Christ’s actual care…potential… as realized in His/Her “vineyard” exists just the same. The horrors of the world, as evidenced by the suffering of innocent people, cry out for our presence, and we either feel powerless OR we respond!

For 10 years, we have been working in rural Kenya, with the community of Nthare.

Together with Fr. Linus, we have built and developed a health clinic, 14-room elementary school, cow-milking farm, 12 mission parish churches, water wells (especially crucial to relieve droughts), solar electricity, adult reading classes, and all the necessities that we call conveniences.

The Problem:

Now, after 10 years of back and forth to Kenya, government support that we have relied on has abruptly stopped. The Kenyan president has stopped funding education and health facilities. Teachers, doctors, nurses aren’t working.

We, though, must stay open and keep our employees, families, and children alive, healthy, holy, and well!  We have nurses and teachers that haven’t been paid in three months. Please look over the partial list below and choose one of the “areas of adoption” you can help us with to keep our mission running. What we give for our Kenyan vineyard is amazingly more powerful than here at home.

Here are some of the areas of your Kenyan vineyard that you can sponsor. Whatever tugs on your heart, we can direct your support there. Listen. Allow yourself to feel.

Medical clinic: The clinic has received no insurance remittances from the government since December 2023. The annual salary of the clinic’s three medical techs is $25,000. To supply the Clinic with medicines and supplies is an additional $15,000.

We owe thousands of dollars in back salaries to our technicians,

School: Before January 2024: Budgeted Income: $3 a day/pupil. We’re lucky to get $1 a day now. Annual operating budget: Salaries, supplies, food -- $130,000 - $150,000.

Thank you. Thank you for the blessing of joining me on this journey,
