A Year of Growth

The last year has brought extraordinary growth to Family Transition Place (FTP). We've increased our number of programs (and, as a result, staff), developed a forward-thinking 2023-2026 strategic plan, made much-needed changes to the program storage areas in our building and cultivated the steps and plans needed to build more affordable housing, which is a critical need for the community we serve.

You can read about all of it (and more!) in our 2022-2023 Annual Report.

2023-2024 Board of Directors

L–R: Sheralyn Roman, Carissa Burton and Norah Kennedy

L-R: Kimberly Van Ryn and Norah Kennedy

FTP held its Annual General Meeting on June 28th and said "see you soon" to two of our dedicated board members: Board Chair, Carissa (Cari) Burton and Board Member, Kimberly (Kim) Van Ryn.

Cari has been incredibly dedicate to her role as board chair for the last three years and we are happy that she will be staying on in a past-chair role for the next year. Kim is passionate about the work we do and this community. She will continue to support our work through community events and awareness-building opportunities.

The board also welcomed two new members to our 2023-2024 Board of Directors: Laura Bryan Kirk and Jennifer Innis. Laura and Jennifer have both supported our work for a number of years and they will each bring their own wealth of experience and knowledge through their work in the Dufferin and Caledon communities.

We also welcome Sheralyn Roman on as Board Chair and Sharyn Ayliffe as Vice Chair. Laura Cameron remains as Board Treasurer and we are excited to continue working with Board Members: Denyse Horner, Rapinder Kaur, Tony Maxwell and Christina Zurowski. For more information on our board, please visit our website.

Why We Walk

FTP's Youth Education Program promotes self-esteem, compassion, greater empathy and more trusting and cooperative relationships. Last year, our youth educators provided healthy relationship programming for 2,481 students in Caledon and Dufferin.

These programs run primarily through fundraised dollars and we rely on the support of our community to keep them going.

Walk with us on Sunday, September 24th at Island Lake Conservation Area to support this dynamic programming and, ultimately, healthy relationships for all.

Read more about the event by visiting the Heidi's Walk for Hope website.

Are you trying to grow your business and brand awareness in the

Dufferin and Caledon communities?

Buying ad space in our 2023 HOPE magazine is a great way to advertise your product or service while supporting the work we do.

Check out this year's advertising opportunities!

This year's HOPE magazine will be released in conjunction with our Heidi's Walk for Hope event—each participant will receive a copy (we anticipate approximately 200 participants). Copies of the magazine will also be distributed to participating businesses and digitally through our website and social media channels.

This publication provides an additional source of revenue for us in support of our unfunded programs and services. By purchasing an ad, you're funding some of our most critical programming.

For more information on how to buy ad space, please contact Kelly at 519-942-4122, ext. 243 or kelly@familytransitionplace.ca.

World Day against Trafficking In Persons

July 30th is recognized globally as the World Day against Trafficking in Persons—a day to raise awareness about the human trafficking pandemic. Human trafficking can involve men, women, and children. However, most cases involve women and girls, for sexual exploitation, and children for cheap child labor. Human trafficking is an “industry” that reportedly rakes in hundreds of billions of dollars globally each year.

This year's theme is: Reach every victim of trafficking, leave no one behind.

Visit the United Nations website to read more about the World Day against Trafficking in Persons.
