While FPTV began serving families in shelter in our new building in April of 2023, we officially did a groundbreaking last week! It was a pleasure to see so many of our long-term partners including the City of Tigard, Washington County and our churches and volunteers who have been with us from the beginning. We are so grateful to Project Turnkey and those at Oregon Community Foundation for offering FPTV the ability to acquire our new building—A Bridge to Home. The event was so meaningful especially as one of our graduate families was able to share their experience while in shelter with us. Supporting families while they journey back into their new homes is why we’re here. If you missed the groundbreaking and haven’t yet joined us for a tour, please do reach out to schedule a visit. Please see photo below of a giant thank you card one of our guests dropped off last weekend.

Thanks to the contributions of many community supporters, hundreds of heart shaped inspirational cards were displayed throughout Bridge to Home. They were also shared with guests in food orders, during community meals, and as they passed through the lobby. Our Valentine’s party was a highlight of the month’s festivities and a huge hit. Teens and their moms from the Young Men’s Service League and National Charity League along with several key volunteers led activities. Thanks to Karen E., Bobbie P., and Lori B. the children were provided a host of Valentine themed crafts, games, yummy sweets, and treat bags. A huge thank you to Karen E. for the care and attention she put into each detail of the delightful party.

We’ve teamed up with CareOregon to boost healthcare support for families in FPTV programs! Our dedicated case managers will now have additional resources to guide participants through the healthcare system. This partnership aims to ensure that every person who comes through FPTV’s doors not only has a safe place to stay, but also receives the comprehensive healthcare assistance they deserve. Housing instability often results in increased difficulty in attending regular doctor visits, ongoing treatments, and other required medical care. We are confident that the new support from CareOregon will help to eliminate barriers to healthcare by providing more transportation support and interpretation services. We are thrilled to have medical outreach staff come to Bridge to Home regularly to share information and resources with families at FPTV.

Club Coco volunteers share their expertise in a wide range of academic areas which cover preschool through high school students. They meet with children in our program two afternoons a week and bring fun to learning. Thanks to Carol G. and her team of educators for their dedication to children at FPTV.

For families experiencing homelessness and residing in small shelter rooms, Spring Break can be stressful, as budgets for activities are tight, leaving most unable to do something special for spring break. Thanks to the overwhelming generosity of many advocates, last year families in our shelter program received gift cards for local experiences such as bowling, movies, and restaurants.

This year we are asking for your support to fund educational and exciting experiences that we will bring directly to Bridge to Home. Offering a range of activities at our shelter allows access for all guests and removes the transportation barrier. Planned activities include a pizza party, art day, Kona-shaved ice treats, Oregon Reptile Man Presentation, Lego night, and more.

Corrections: Last month we shared that a community partner helped change our decor to a Valentine's theme. We incorrectly attributed that group, which should have been listed as Home Building Foundation.
