Family Promise of Grayson County Newsletter October 2022

NTXGivingDay
Our mission is intersecting faith and community to empower
Grayson County families to end child homelessness.

Message from our Executive Director

Happy Fall, y'all!

The year may be winding down, but it seems like we are busier than ever!

The 2022 Family Promise Bed Race Relay is in the books and will go down as a great success!  Read ahead to see which team won!  Part of the relay involved tossing a bean bag into a corn hole.  Check out the beautiful corn hole boards our Board Treasurer Chris Butler made!

We recently have had fun celebrating four birthdays among the two families (4 adults and 8 precious children) currently in our Interfaith Hospitality Network (rotation program).  I hope you get the chance to meet these fine folks!

As of mid-September, we had served 214 families in 2022 (including 310 adults and 469 children) in our Family HOPE homelessness prevention program.  That is possible only because of our generous donors. (YOU!)

Thanks for all you do to help us achieve our vision of a community where no child is homeless!

Blessings,

Leigh

 Covenant Crawlers Complete Course Quickly!

The Grand Prize Winners of the 2022 Bed Race Relay were the Covenant Crawlers! Although they raised enough money to shave over 2 minutes from their time, the Crawlers won outright with a race time of 9 minutes 47 seconds! Their adjusted race time was over 10 minutes faster than the slowest team! The Crawlers included Jim & Cyndi Fry, Cathy & Mark Clayton, and Darlene Schweitzer!

Congratulations, Crawlers!

North Texas Giving Day

Many local nonprofit representatives and supporters gathered at the RailYard in Downton Denison the night before North Texas Giving Day. The RailYard generously hosted their usual Wednesday trivia night as a non-profit night to help raise awareness of NTX Giving Day. This was no trivial matter! Family Promise of Grayson County received $7360 in donations on North Texas Giving Day, including a Clara Blackford Smith and W. Aubrey Smith Charitable Foundation Prize!

Thank you to the Clara Blackford Smith & W. Aubrey Smith Charitable Foundation, Bank of America, N.A. Trustee for sponsoring this prize! We appreciate ALL of our donors and are grateful to those of you who supported us during the Communities Foundation of Texas NTX Giving Day!

Here's another bit of trivia:  Did you know that October 16-22 is National Family Promise Week?  Now you do!

Thank you to our Host and Support Congregations!

We are so thankful to our Host and Support Congregations for providing hospitality, food, and shelter for our guests.

Our October Host Congregations include Whitesboro First Baptist church, Whitesboro First United Methodist church, and Trinity Baptist church in Sherman. Special thanks to Covenant Presbyterian church in Sherman for allowing us to stay in "the Cube" for a week in September when another church was unable to host in their building.

Note to Coordinators and Pastors: we have two weeks in October (10/16 and 10/23) that do not have hosts! Please prayerfully consider opening your hearts and doors to our guests. We have a list of individuals that would be willing to help with meals.

Thank you to all the wonderful congregations that already have signed up to host in 2023! We appreciate your willingness to show God's love in such a tangible way!

Area Nonprofit Fairs

Family Promise of Grayson County has had a presence at several local events, including two recent nonprofit fairs. One was hosted by Austin College for students to discover ways of getting involved in our community. Another was part of Denison's 150th birthday. The Denison Ministerial Alliance held a community worship service at Munson Stadium, the theme of which was "knowing and loving your neighbor". Family Promise was one of about a dozen community organizations sharing information in the ministry fair.

It was a tad windy at the ministry fair!
