Family Promise of Grayson County Newsletter January 2024

NTXGivingDay

Our mission is intersecting faith and community to empower

Grayson County families to end child homelessness.

MESSAGE FROM OUR EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR

Happy 2024!

Each new year seems to bring new promise and hope for our community! You are very generous with your time and resources, and that enables us to serve families in meaningful ways. We have seen families work hard to attain stable housing. One of our families in the Rotation program was able to move into a home just in time for Christmas! We are hopeful another family currently in our Rotation program will be able to move into a home very soon. With support from our community, the number of families we can help prevent from becoming homeless continues to increase.

Our Board members are thoughtful, intelligent, and engaged with our mission. This month, Board Chair Becky Frank will lead the Board in a retreat during which we will explore new ideas and plan how best to serve families facing or experiencing homelessness. I believe that together, with prayer and hard work, we can do great things. I am looking forward to seeing what we do!

We ended 2023 on a high note. Thanks to many organizations such as Trinity Lutheran church, Sherman Noon Lions Club, and many individuals, we were able to provide Christmas gifts for many children.

What a privilege to live in such a generous community! Below are just a few examples of how you have made a difference in the past few weeks. Thank you! You matter!

Happy New Year, friends!

SANTA AND SSMC LONE STAR BRING GIFTS

About 10 members of the SSMC Lone Star helped make Christmas merrier for a delightful family of six by roaring in on their beautiful bikes and delivering gifts! This community based Motorcycle Club, comprised of law enforcement and veterans, escorted Santa and Mrs. Claus right to this family's home, where gifts and goodies were placed under their tree! It would be difficult to say who was more excited: the children or the motorcycle enthusiasts! We love our partnership with the SSMC Lone Star! They provide an example of honor and integrity in our community.

CITY OF SHERMAN DELIVERS

Dustin Merrell and Sheila Davis recently stopped by the Day Center to deliver a truckload of diapers, wipes, clothes, children's coats, hats, mittens, water, and Christmas gifts collected by the City of Sherman employees. This very generous donation arrived just in time for Christmas! We are so thankful for these thoughtful public servants and for ALL the ways they assist our community!

HOME HOSPICE OF GRAYSON COUNTY PROVIDES

Megan Taylor, Social Worker at Home Hospice of Grayson County, presented Family Promise with a collection of office supplies, copy paper, paper towels, TP, kitchen towels, gift cards, and more! These thoughtful gifts will help us be well prepared for the new year! We are so grateful to this caring nonprofit organization for enhancing the quality of life for everyone in our community!

INDEPENDENT FINANCIAL ENRICHES

We also are thankful for bankers Joshua Whitworth and Kay Cato for wrapping up 2023 with a class on fraud prevention. Independent Financial and Family Promise of Grayson County partner to bring monthly financial literacy classes to the Day Center.

Classes are free and open to the public. They are held monthly at the Day Center (901 E. Houston Street in Sherman). Snacks and childcare are provided. A variety of topics about money management, including credit scores, loans, holiday spending, and fraud prevention have been discussed so far. There even are some classes geared towards children! Make it your New Year's resolution to join us!

KNIGHT FAMILY CHIROPRACTIC SUPPLIES

Dr. Andre Taylor and his beautiful daughter Evie used some of their holiday time to bring supplies to our guest families. Throughout the entire month of December, Knight Family Chiropractic sponsored Giving Trees in each of their offices. Staff and patients could select an ornament and give to a local nonprofit. We are so pleased and delighted to be a recipient of their generosity! Dr. Taylor brought stacks of diapers, toiletries, pack & play sheets, deodorants, combs, brushes, shampoo, conditioner, and gas cards! Thank you, Knight Family Chiropractic!
