MESSAGE FROM OUR BOARD CHAIR
|
Greetings from the Board! Our goal is to make this another successful year for Family Promise of Grayson County. Recently the Board held a Saturday morning strategy session to help make this goal achievable. We have added new Board members Maureen Kane Stevenson and Jessica Wright and are grateful to have our returning Board members Frank Rahm (Vice Chair), Larshá Thomas (Secretary), Chris Butler (Treasurer) and members Christy Close and Steve Showalter.
We are blessed to have a great staff in place: our Executive Director Leigh Walker, and our two Resource Advocates, Kristi Shilling and Tara Hickerson, who all work tirelessly to serve the families in need in our community.
Our programs are made possible by the support we receive from our congregations, grantors, and donors. Your generosity allows us to fund our programs. We have continued to support three programs: our Rotational Shelter Program, made possible by our host and support congregations, Family HOPE (Housing Opportunities to Prevent Evictions), and our transitional home, the Tabitha House.
If you have not yet had the experience to host our families or participate with us in other ways, we hope that 2024 will be the year that you are able to do so. Our programs help families that are experiencing, or are on the verge of, homelessness. Seeing these families work hard to reestablish a stable homelife is rewarding. It is an honor to serve as Chair for an organization which is working diligently towards our vision of a community in which no child is homeless. Please join us in this mission as we serve as the hands and feet of Christ.
Sincerely,
Becky Frank

MAKING A CASE FOR KINDNESS
|
Royal Case Company representatives Alexis and JD recently delivered a truckload of supplies donated by the Royal Case Company community. This generous gift included food, hygiene products, cleaning supplies, diapers, wipes, and paper goods. The thoughtful and caring people at Royal Case will bless many people through their donation! Some of these items were given away the very same day to families and individuals in need.
Last year, Family Promise provided food, clothing, diapers, and/or hygiene products to 87 families, often on more than one occasion. The guests in our Rotation and Family HOPE programs also will benefit from Royal Case's generosity.
Royal Case Company is the largest hard and soft sided custom case maker in America. We think they may have some of the biggest hearts, too!

Pottsboro Area Library's Digital Navigator Mark Revolinski recently updated our Day Center resource room by providing and installing two new computers and a new printer! These devices are available for use by the families we serve. We are so grateful that our guests will be able to apply for online benefits, update their resumes, and even take classes on these faster, more efficient computers. A gigabyte of thanks to Mark and the Pottsboro Area Library for partnering with us to help our community learn, engage, and connect!

During a recent Technology Lunch & Learn class at the Pottsboro Area Library, Renee Nichols and Mark Revolinski discussed computer essentials. They covered topics such as internet access, web browsers, spam, phishing, and cyber security. At noon on February 27th, they will talk about creating professional quality documents, among other things. Hope to see you there!

GIVING CREDIT TO CADENCE BANK
Mat Morris, Jarod Dutton, Dave Johnson, and Randle Jones of Cadence Bank discussed "credit" during this week's financial literacy class. They covered FICO scores, getting credit, credit history, low annual percentage rates, interest, and credit reports. Cadence Bank partners with Family Promise and Habitat for Humanity to offer these very informative classes, which are open to the public. Huge thanks goes to Cadence Bank for providing dinner and leading the discussion and to Habitat for Humanity for providing the venue. We appreciate you both!

One of the most loving things we do through Family Promise is open our churches to families that are experiencing homelessness. Sharing a meal, playing with children, and visiting with families truly is an exchange of love. Thanks to ALL of our Host congregations for the love and hospitality they show our guests. February's Hosts include: First United Methodist church in Sherman and Georgetown Baptist church in Pottsboro. Thank you for showing God's love to our guests!
Bless us with Love, O Merciful God;
That we may Love as you Love!
That we may show patience, tolerance,
Kindness, caring and love to all!
