Bring the whole family to JANM for a celebration of Veterans Day weekend and Thanksgiving season! Our kid-friendly activities will revolve around giving thanks to veterans, family, and friends.

  • A double feature of documentaries produced by Nitto Tire U.S.A. Inc.: Journey to Washington: On the Trail of Senator Daniel Inouye and Scott Fujita: The Man Behind the Name.

  • A lively World War II USO-style performance by Swing Dames.

  • Receive a hug from Hello Kitty.

  • Write a letter of thanks to one of the brave men and women serving in our armed forces.

  • Mini seasonal pies from I Like Pie Bakeshop. For children only. One pie per child, while supplies last.

Hello Kitty Girl Scout Program

Saturday, November 22

In this special program just for Girl Scouts, start your visit to Hello! Exploring the Supercute World of Hello Kitty before museum hours and then create your own Hello Kitty-inspired artwork. $10 members; $20 youth ages 6–17 without membership; $30 adults without membership. Museum admission, materials, and participation patches included. Limited to 45 participants.

Additional Hello Kitty Girl Scout Program dates will be added for 2015. Please check future emails for updates.

Enjoy rarely-screened gems from the Sanrio vaults, including Nutcracker Fantasy, a 1979 stop-motion animation film, and vintage Hello Kitty animations from the 1970s and ’80s. $8 members, $10 non-members.

Nikkei Names

DISCOVER NIKKEI

NIKKEI NAMES: Taro, John, Juan, João?

What’s in a name? Discover Nikkei, a project of JANM, is collecting stories that explore the origins and meanings of Nikkei names. These can include family names, given names, and even nicknames.

All stories that meet the submission guidelines will be published on the Discover Nikkei website as part of the “Nikkei Names” series. Selected stories will be translated into the other site languages (English, Japanese, Spanish, and Portuguese).

Deadline: October 31, 2014, 6 p.m. (PST)

Reservations are recommended for most programs. Please RSVP at least 48 hours in advance by calling 213.625.0414 or emailing rsvp@janm.org. Emails must indicate the name, date, and time of the program. Reservations are not required for free family festivals.

General Admission:
$9 adults, $5 seniors (age 62 and over); $5 students (with valid ID) and youth (ages 6–17); FREE for JANM members and children 5 and under. FREE every Thursday from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. and all day the third Thursday of each month.
