Dear Parents and Families,
Commissioner Rosa
I hope you are enjoying the summer break and taking advantage of the many learning and support options available to New York’s families and students this summer. In my last update, I mentioned the 2022 Summer Reading at New York Libraries program, which is a great opportunity to explore your local library and keep your kids reading!
In addition, the 2022 Summer Food Service Program, which provides free meals to approximately 400,000 young people, kicked off this month at nearly 3,000 sites statewide. There are several tools available to help find a service site:
  • USDA Online Map
  • Text: Text “Food or “Comida” to 877-877
  • Call:
  • USDA National Hunger Hotline 1-866-3-HUNGRY or 1-877-3-HAMBRE
  • 211 in New York State
  • 311 in New York City
This week is Summer Learning Week, a celebration dedicated to keeping kids safe, healthy, and learning all summer long. You can help your children to continue learning with this Family Toolkit and other fun resources from the National Summer Learning Association. You can also visit DiscoverSummer.org to find summer programs in your community and lots of engaging online activities.
Another great summer learning resource is the New York State Museum’s Online Resources and Activities Portal, which includes virtual “field trips,” digital collections, online resources, and fun activities for kids based on the Museum’s research and collections. And, if you’re in the Capital Region, I highly recommend a visit to the State Museum! You can check out the New York State Museum’s website for more information.
I appreciate your continued support, and I hope you will encourage other parents and families to subscribe to this newsletter so we can all continue to stay connected.

Betty A. Rosa
