If we don't teach our children to follow Christ, the world will teach them not to.
CONCLUSION - PART 2 (Day 66)

Preparation: We spend our whole life learning. Learning continues long after our school years have ended. Sadly, most people never seek more than just a basic understanding of who God is.

It is vital that we and our children learn as much about God as possible. If you want your children to have courage to face their trials or compassion to help others, they need a complete understanding of God.

Thank you for taking the time to lay such an important foundation of the knowledge of God into their heart. Their life will become a response to what they know about God.

Read the Bible Memory Verse below.

BIBLE MEMORY VERSE
"But grow in grace, and in the knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
To him be glory both now and for ever. Amen." (2 Peter 3:18)
We are concluding our Knowledge of God devotion series. Yesterday was Part 1 of our Conclusion.

Here is a brief review: our Bible Memory Verse contains a two commands for growth:
  1. Grow in Grace
  2. Grow in your knowledge of God

GROW IN GRACE
Growing in God's Grace begins by understanding His eternal forgiveness of our sin, doing what is right, and growing in our knowledge of Him.

Today is Part 2 of our Conclusion, learning how to ...

GROW IN YOUR KNOWLEDGE OF GOD
It is not enough to just know that God exists. God wants us to grow in our knowledge of Him every day. The Apostle Paul prayed for a group of Christians in Colossians 1:10 that they would be daily "increasing in the knowledge of God."

Listen to Hosea's heart, concerning God and His people in Hosea 6:6.

"For I desired mercy, and not sacrifice;
and the knowledge of God more than burnt offerings."

In Hosea's day, God's People were very good about practicing religious ceremonies, bringing what they needed for sacrifices and for burnt offerings. But they were missing the most important thing in their life - a personal relationship with God based on growing their knowledge of Him. Their life was focused on the wrong things, and they were suffering as a result.

We can also get our mind on the wrong things. We can focus on learning all that we can at school or work; we can focus on increasing our health and strength; we can focus on earning as much money as we can. There is nothing wrong with any of those things unless we miss the most important thing in life.

Read Jeremiah 9:23-24.

"Thus saith the LORD, Let not the wise man glory in his wisdom, neither let the mighty man glory in his might, let not the rich man glory in his riches: But let him that glorieth glory in this, that he understandeth and knoweth me, that I am the LORD which exercise lovingkindness, judgment, and righteousness, in the earth: for in these things I delight, saith the LORD."

According to this verse, what are we NOT to glory in? ( Our wisdom, strength, or riches)
What does God want us to focus on increasing instead? ( Our understanding and knowledge of Him)

The Bible lists many benefits for helping your child learn more about God. Increasing your child's knowledge of God ...
  1. Grows them in His Grace (2 Peter 1:2)
  2. Calms their soul (peace) when their world is in chaos (2 Peter 1:2)
  3. Provides wisdom to overcome every issue of life (2 Peter 1:3)
  4. Secures their hope in His many promises (2 Peter 1:4)
  5. Helps them become more like God (2 Peter 1:4)
  6. Prevents the world from destroying them (2 Peter 1:4)
  7. Matures them spiritually (Ephesians 4:13)

WHY DOES THIS MATTER:
Because GOD IS PERSONAL, seek to know Him personally every day.

TAKING ACTION:
Read God's Word every day looking for sins to avoid, promises to claim, actions to take, and descriptions of God's character and nature. Pray and thank God for His special revelation of Himself to you.

All of these devotions were designed to learn more about God every day. This is the conclusion of that series.
