If we don't teach our children to follow Christ, the world will teach them not to.
GOD IS FAITHFUL (Day 45)

Because GOD IS FAITHFUL, He will keep all of His promises.

Preparation: Today, we begin exploring God's faithfulness. God's faithfulness means that He will always do what He promises.

Under the hood of your car is an engine. Your car's engine is made up of many parts that all have to work together, at the same time, in order for the engine to run the car. All of the moving parts require a thick liquid called oil to run smoothly.

All of God's character traits can be seen as a perfect collection of individual parts that require the oi l of God's Faithfulness to work well all the time. When does God’s love fail? Never, because God is faithful. When is God less than holy? Never, because He is always pure and faithful to who He is and what He says. God is always all-knowing, all-powerful, and ever-present because He is faithful to His own character.

Read the Bible Memory Verse below.

BIBLE MEMORY VERSE
"But the Lord is faithful, who shall establish you, and keep you from evil."
(2 Thessalonians 3:3)
It follows then, that in His faithfulness, God always keeps His covenants, or promises—without fail. Read Deuteronomy 7:9.

"Know therefore that the LORD thy God, he is God, the faithful God,
which keepeth covenant and mercy with them that love him and keep
his commandments to a thousand generations."

The phrase, "to a thousand generations," is a poetic way of saying God is forever true to His Word. Because God is faithful to His Word, He will be faithful to those who trust in His Word. If God were not faithful, we would be lost forever.

Read about God's faithfulness to us recorded in Hebrews 10:23.

"Let us hold fast the profession of our faith without wavering;
(for he is faithful that promised)"

The ability for God to be faithful to perform all of His promises to us is an eternal blessing. Have you ever made a promise you couldn't keep? What happened? Why couldn't you keep it?

The difference between you and me and God is that He ALWAYS keeps His promises! NOTHING can stop Him from being faithful to His word.

Read 1 Thessalonians 5:24.

"Faithful is he that calleth you, who also will do it."

Is God faithful some of the time? ( NO! - God is ALWAYS faithful to do what He says He will do.) Nothing can stop Him from being faithful. It doesn't say:
  • "He might do this," or
  • "He'll try hard to be faithful to what He says," or
  • "He will do the best He can."

The Bible is clear. God will do this; He is faithful to do what He says.

WHY DOES THIS MATTER:
Because God is faithful, I know He will always do what He says He'll do.

TAKING ACTION:
So when you get up in the morning and the sun is shining, thank God for His faithfulness. When you look outside and find it raining, thank God for His faithfulness in watering the earth and all the plants on it. If as evening approaches lightning flashes and a thunderstorm roars, thank God for His faithfulness in producing valuable nitrogen to renew the plants and trees.

Truly, God’s faithfulness is new every morning and refreshes us every night.

EXPLORING GOD'S FAITHFULNESS
Take a hike or a walk through the neighborhood or park. If it's warm, pack a picnic supper to take with you!! Before you begin this exercise pick up any items that you see around you: a rock, coin, pen, acorn, etc.
  1. Gather the items and take turns holding them in the air and letting go. If you change the way you drop them does anything change in how they land? You will notice that no matter how you drop them, they always land on the ground. It's impossible for them to land above you. Why is that so? Because gravity pulls objects down. Gravity is totally dependable--it pulls things down. Another way to put it is to say that "gravity is always faithful to pull things down." Who created gravity? Who makes sure it is always working?
  2. While you're walking or going through your day, look for things in nature that are also dependable and faithful. (Leaves fall in the autumn and come out in the spring; birds make nests; ants gather food; waves crash on the beach; the stars come out at night; the sun shines even when there are clouds.) See who can find the most examples of faithfulness. Connect all of these examples to God's faithful control of His universe.

God is completely faithful in every way. We can depend on Him to always do what He says He'll do. The world He created reflects God's faithfulness in many ways, and it reminds us of His faithfulness wherever we go.

A Sample Prayer to Conclude Your Time
Use this great hymn of the Faith for your prayer time.

Dear God,
Great is Thy faithfulness, O God my Father,
There is no shadow of turning with Thee;
Thou changest not, Thy compassions, they fail not;
As Thou hast been Thou forever wilt be.
Great is Thy faithfulness! Great is Thy faithfulness!
Morning by morning new mercies I see;
All I have needed Thy hand hath provided;
Great is Thy faithfulness, Lord, unto me!

Thank you for your faithfulness to me. In Jesus' Name we pray, Amen.
