If we don't teach our children to follow Christ, the world will teach them not to.
GOD IS TOTALLY TRUTHFUL (Day 29)

Because GOD IS TOTALLY TRUTHFUL, I trust Him to be my Savior.

Preparation: Pass around a rock or stone from your yard. Ask your children, "Have you ever heard the phrase, 'written in stone?'"
  • How can people write in something that is so hard? (Using a hammer and chisel or some other kind of tool)
  • If you write something in stone, can it be erased? (No. You would have to destroy the stone to erase it.)

To say that something is 'written in stone,' usually refers to some statement that cannot be changed. We have been studying this week that God's Word is true and cannot be changed. It came to us from God, Who is unchanging. You can trust God and His Word to be Totally Truthful forever.
Read the Bible Memory Verse below.

BIBLE MEMORY VERSE
Every word of God is pure: he is a shield unto them that put their trust in him.
(Proverbs 30:5)
The phrase 'written in stone' comes from the Old Testament account of when God gave the Ten Commandments. Moses was called by God to go up to the mountaintop. He was there for forty days and forty nights. During that time God wrote the Ten Commandments with His own finger on tablets of stone. Moses carried down the mountain a preserved copy of God's Law written by God.

Aren't you glad that when you carry a copy of God's Word today, you do not have to carry one written on stone?

How do we carry a copy of God's Word with us today? ( Bibles are printed on paper and bound in books. Also, there are electronic copies that can be stored in our phones and other electronic devices.)

We also can carry a copy of God's Word with us in our hearts and minds. God made His Word so that we could remember it. That way it could be with us in any situation. Do you know some Bible verses that you have memorized?

When are some times that you could use memorized truths from God's Word?

Here is a list of some times that we need God's Truth with us. As you read through this list, each person can choose one situation and read the verse that goes with it.

  1. When we are confused, God will guide us.(Proverbs 3:5-6)
  2. When we are afraid, God will protect us. (Isaiah 41:3)
  3. When we are tempted, God will help us resist. (1 Corinthians 10:13)
  4. When we are hurting, God will comfort us. (2 Corinthians 1:3-4)
  5. When we are discouraged, God will encourage us.(Joshua 1:9)
  6. When we are lonely, God will be our companion. (Romans 8:38-39)

What about when we break God's commands? Here's a game that you can play. Go around the room and see how many of the Ten Commandments each person can name in 10 seconds.

One of God's commands is, thou shalt not lie. Ask, "Have you ever told a lie?" When someone lies to you, what do you call them? ( If they say, "a sinner," they are correct, but more specifically we call them a liar. )

To lie is to break one of God's Commandments. Breaking any of God's commands is a sin against God, and the penalty for sin is death. In an act of God's mercy and grace, He chose His Son, Jesus, to pay the penalty for your sin. Jesus died in your place on the cross. After Jesus died, He was buried and then rose again from the grave. You can be forgiven by God if you trust what Jesus did for you.

7. When we are a sinner, God will be our Savior ( Romans 10:9)

NOTE TO PARENTS: If your child has not accepted Jesus as his Savior, this would be a good opportunity to show them how, then let them decide. CLICK: 4 KEYS 4 KIDS.

God wrote the commandments in stone. No one could erase or change them; they are absolute truth. Moses, in his anger, shattered the stone tablets. As humans we can break God’s commandments, but we cannot change them. The broken laws are not any less true. Once shattered, God just wrote them on stone once more. Nothing we can do will ever change God’s absolute truth. And once we are saved by our trust in His Truth, nothing can ever ruin our relationship with God ( John 6:37, 47 )

WHY DOES THIS MATTER:
Because God is Totally Truthful, you do not have to wonder what the truth is. If someone tries to tell you lies about God, you know where to go to find the truth!

Because God is Totally Truthful, you know He loves your friends who do not follow Jesus, and He will give them every opportunity to believe in Him.

TAKING ACTION:
Thank God for His Word and that you don't have to guess what truth is. Ask Him to give you an opportunity to show a friend the truth about Jesus.

Because God is Totally Truthful, I will ________________________.
(Note: Fill in the blank by sharing a specific action point.)

A Sample Prayer to Conclude Your Time
Dear God,
We praise You for being Truth in our lives. In a world of half-truths and lies, we thank You that Your Word can always be trusted. Forgive us when we fail to read Your Word and hear Your Truth. Help us to live Your truth and be truthful people. Give us courage to stand up for Your Word or stand up for what is True. Most importantly, open our eyes to see opportunities to share the Truth of the Gospel with others.
In Jesus' Name we pray, Amen.
