If we don't teach our children to follow Christ, the world will teach them not to.
GOD IS TOTALLY TRUTHFUL (Day 25)

Because GOD IS TOTALLY TRUTHFUL, His Word is always true.

Preparation: The culture wants us to teach children to tell the truth but reject any moral absolutes for their lives or worship. I'm sorry, but you can't have it both ways! If God's Truth doesn't exist, then morality is nothing more than a fairy tale. The Truth is that your children will love life more and love others more deeply if they follow His Word of Truth. Give children the keys to freedom by teaching that there is absolute truth and that truth starts with our Totally Truthful God .

Read the Bible Memory Verse below.

BIBLE MEMORY VERSE
Every word of God is pure: he is a shield unto them that put their trust in him.
(Proverbs 30:5)
Why do people lie? ( They don't want to get in trouble, or they want people to think they're something they aren't.)

The Bible Memory Verse tells us about the truthfulness of God's word. God's words are always true. Listen to what the Bible says in Numbers 23:19 about God's truth:

"God is not a man, that he should lie; neither the son of man,
that he should repent [change His mind]: hath he said, and
shall he not do it? or hath he spoken, and shall he not make it good?"

What does this verse tell you about God? ( He's not like us; He doesn't lie, doesn't change His mind, and always does what He promises.)

What does this verse tell you about people? ( We do lie, we do change our mind, and we don't always keep our promises.)

It's not that we lie all the time. Hopefully, we try to be truthful most of the time, but the fact is, we all lie at some point in our life. God never does.

Read Isaiah 40:25-26 and find out why God has no reason to lie.

"To whom then will ye liken me, or shall I be equal? saith the Holy One.
Lift up your eyes on high, and behold who hath created these things,
that bringeth out their host by number: he calleth them all by names
by the greatness of his might, for that he is strong in power; not one faileth."

When we lie, we expose our weakness or the fact that we have trouble doing what's right all the time. The Bible is clear; God doesn't have any weaknesses. He has nothing to prove and no one He needs to impress. He never has to worry about getting in trouble.

Look at the attributes of God listed below. How do God's other attributes enable Him to be totally truthful all the time?
  1. God is Holy (It is impossible for God to lie. If God told a lie, He would cease to be perfect.)
  2. God is Everywhere (He is always with us and knows what is true about every situation.)
  3. God is All-Powerful (He can do whatever He says. He has no need to lie to get something He wants.)

WHY DOES THIS MATTER:
Because God is Totally Truthful, you can count on Him to do what He says He'll do. Reading and knowing His Word will bring you great comfort. Because God is Totally Truthful, He will never lie to you.

TAKING ACTION:
Tell God how thankful you are that He is always truthful. Ask Him to help you trust Him completely and share with Him one way you're going to show Him that trust this week.

AT HOME: Blindfold your child. Tell them to follow your voice as you guide them around your room or home. For some added excitement ask a sibling to give them wrong instructions to follow. Afterward discuss the importance of knowing who's voice to follow. Was there any time when they questioned if your directions were right? God will never lie. We must learn to follow His Word, no matter what we think or what others may say.

IN YOUR CAR: Next time you are in the car ask them to navigate for you. If they give incorrect directions follow their lead anyway (make sure you have time for a detour!) Talk about what it takes to know the true directions... even you had to learn the true directions in order to find the place you want to go! Our true directions are found in the Bible. If they give the correct directions you can still talk about how they knew which way to go and why it's important to know the directions God gives in the Bible so we get where we want to go with Him!

NOTE: Tomorrow's Devotion Activity involves making a treasure map for your child to follow on a treasure hunt. Depending on your desire to add your own creativity, the preparation might need more time. CLICK HERE for a sneak preview if you want to do any preparation before tomorrow's devotion.

A Sample Prayer to Conclude Your Time
Dear God,
We praise You for being Truth in our lives. In a world of half-truths and lies, we thank You that Your Word can always be trusted. Forgive us when we fail to read Your Word and hear Your Truth. Help us to live Your truth and be truthful people. Give us courage to stand up for Your Word or stand up for what is True. Most importantly, open our eyes to see opportunities to share the Truth of the Gospel with others.
In Jesus' Name we pray, Amen.
