When I say "go," everyone take a big breath and hold it for 3 seconds. "Ready, go!"
Great job! When we took that breath, air filled our lungs. Was there still any air left in the room? (Yes!) Of course!
If you go into the other room, will there be air there? (Yes!)
If you're all by yourself at school, at church, or in your house is air there? (Yes!)
Like the air we can't see, God is also there. We are going to begin exploring God's omnipresence. That's a big word to describe the fact that God is everywhere, all the time.
Listen to God describe His omnipresence in
Psalm 139:7-10:
"Whither shall I go from thy spirit? or whither shall I flee from thy presence?
If I ascend up into heaven, thou art there: if I make my bed in hell, behold, thou art there. If I take the wings of the morning, and dwell in the uttermost parts of the sea;
Even there shall thy hand lead me, and thy right hand shall hold me."
Is there any place you can think of where God is not there? (No!)
- NOTE: If someone answers "hell." tell them it is one place where God does not live, but He sees and knows what happens there all the time.
- Can you think of some reasons why a person would want to get away from God? (They want to do something they know is wrong; they want to rule their life rather than allowing God to rule it; they're mad at Him.)
- Is there anything that makes you uncomfortable with the fact that God is always with you, and that you can never escape from His presence?
- God is with us, in every part of our lives. Even when we die, we are never alone. God is with us.
These verses give two other reasons that God's constant presence is a good thing.
What do you think they are? (
review the last 2 lines of the above verse)
- He will guide us
- He will give us strength
If God is not always with you all the time, you could never be sure He would be there when you need Him. What do you like about God being everywhere? Is there anything you don't like about God being everywhere?
WHY DOES THIS MATTER:
Sometimes you can feel alone--even in a room full of people. But God is with you everywhere and all the time! You are never alone!
TAKING ACTION:
Thank God He is always with you. Name one place that you are particularly thankful that He is there. (The doctor's office, school, your bedroom at night.)
