Congratulations to MFHS National Merit Semifinalists Harrison Kennedy and An Lou!

Harrison and An are among 16,000 academically talented high school seniors with an opportunity to compete for more than 7,000 National Merit Scholarships worth nearly $28 million to be awarded in the spring.

According to NMSC, more than 1.3 million juniors in about 21,000 high schools entered the 2024 program by taking the PSAT/NMSQT®. The nationwide pool of Semifinalists, representing less than one percent of U.S. high school seniors, includes the highest-scoring entrants in each state. The number of Semifinalists in a state is proportional to the state’s percentage of the national total of graduating seniors.

To become a Finalist, these seniors and their schools must submit a detailed scholarship application, providing information about their academic record, participation in school and community activities, demonstrated leadership abilities, employment, and honors and awards received. A Semifinalist must have an outstanding academic record throughout high school, be endorsed and recommended by a high school official, write an essay, and earn SAT® or ACT® scores that confirm their performance on the qualifying test. More than 15,000 Semifinalists are expected to advance to the Finalist level. All National Merit Scholarship winners will be selected from this group of Finalists.

It's National Arts in Education Week! Eighth-grade students at North Middle School explored portraiture using the blind contour process. Students only used one line and could not look at the paper while they tried to capture as many details as possible!

The School District of Menomonee Falls offers a platform that lets parents stay connected and informed about their child's web activity on their school-issued Chromebook. Parents can sign up through Lightspeed Systems to receive weekly report emails about their child's web activity.

This service improves communication between school and home and empowers parents and guardians to help keep students safe online. The Lightspeed parent portal also helps establish healthy screen time limits with controls to pause web browsing on their child’s school device at home and outside school hours.

To sign up for the Lightspeed report, please click the button below. Please complete a separate sign-up form for each child. Typically, the report will be emailed to the parent/guardian email provided each Sunday. Once you receive your weekly report, you can create an additional account to review your child's daily activity.

Families can access the sign-up form at fallsschools.org/parents, scroll to Technology Information, and click Lightspeed.

The SUSO threat reporting system is available 24/7 and is accessible to all.

Students, parents, school staff, and community members can submit a school safety concern by downloading the SUSO app (Android and iOS), visiting speakup.widoj.gov or calling 1-800-MY-SUSO-1 or texting “SUSO” to 738477 to report a tip (Text messages will not be received via 1-800-MY-SUSO-1). To place Telecommunications Relay Service (TRS) calls, dial 711.

Resource Center staff work around the clock to respond to reports and to deploy a response locally by communicating directly with school administrators, law enforcement, and counselors.

The School District of Menomonee Falls welcomes family and community member volunteers to support our students and staff throughout the year. Volunteer opportunities exist throughout the District. Volunteers supervise field trips, plan school community events, offer fundraising and donation support, and actively engage in classrooms to support student learning. We appreciate our volunteers for the thousands of hours of service and hundreds of thousands of dollars raised to support our students, programs, and schools.

SDMF has implemented an online volunteer application and background check process. To ensure our students' safety, all volunteers must have an approved criminal background check before volunteering. Background checks are required for any volunteer (including parents) who meets any of the following criteria:

• Volunteer will have unsupervised contact with students

• Volunteer has a regular or ongoing assignment at the school

• Volunteer will be off campus with students in an unsupervised situation, including chaperoning field trips

• Volunteer is a mentor to a student or group of students

• Volunteer is a coach or club advisor
