Next weekend! Skokie's Backlot Bash

'Arrested Development,' 'Tonic' and ‘Tributosaurus becomes The Kinks’ will headline Skokie’s Backlot Bash main stage, August 23-25.

Skokie's free three-day downtown street festival will feature 17 bands on two stages, food and beer, a carnival midway, a Saturday 5K Run, bingo, a farmer's market, the annual Rotary pancake breakfast, and more. The event regularly attracts more than 25,000 attendees over the weekend.

“We believe we have another fantastic Bash planned with a great music lineup this year,” said event chairwoman Breanne Labus. “The Bash will feature everything from rock, to hip-hop, to a tribute to The Kinks. I think it’s fair to say that this year’s event will offer a great time to a diverse crowd of Skokie residents.”

The wildly popular Tributosaurus aside, Bash organizers continue to stick to their ‘original music only’ mission, this year conjuring up the event’s most eclectic mix of bands and music genres since its inception in 2007.

Visit Skokie Story Stroll at Winnebago Park

Brought to you this month by our partners, the Skokie Public Library, bring the whole family to Winnebago Park and read the children's book on display along the park's walking path, "Am I Even a Bee?" by Dr. Felicity Muth.

Osmia is a solitary bee, decidedly green and unquestionably un-fuzzy. Osmia has always believed she is a bee, (her mom told her so), but recent run-ins with people, and even other insects, leave her wondering, “Am I even a bee?!” Confused, Osmia faces an identity crisis, so she turns to her her new friend and guide Xyla, a carpenter bee who, like Osmia, does not fit the black-and-yellow social mold. Through some adventures and chance encounters, Osmia and Xyla meet a slew of non-honey bees, each special and important to the meadow in their own unique way. Osmia discovers that while fame is great, diversity and acceptance are essential to a happy ecosystem. As it turns out, there is no one way to be a bee!
