Fall Makeup Trends

Heavy contouring, natural bronzy tones, kohl rimmed eyes and cinnamon or wine colored lips is just one of the hot looks this fall.  You can achieve it at home with a little patience. The best way to get this chiseled look is by starting with some contouring.

Choose a foundation or powder to add depth that's a few shades darker than your foundation.  If you're shadowing with foundation, do your contouring before you powder your face.  If you're shadowing with powder, do your contouring after you powder your face. Blending is key, I like to take a clean brush and feather the contouring powder at the edges.  For highlighting you can use a highlighting or iridescent powder, or you can use a highlighting cream/liquid.  It usually comes in translucent, pink or white.  Again, if you're using a cream or liquid, apply it over your foundation, before you powder.  If you're applying a powder, apply it over your powder.  Blend, blend blend!  After you've beautifully contoured your face, you're ready for blush.  Choose a burnt peach, rust, or deep burgundy shade. If you look better in cooler tones, go with the burgundy.  If you look better in warmer tones, go with the burnt peach or rust.  Start just under the apples of your cheeks and sweep up and out.  Its good for the blush to blend partially into the contouring.  Line your lips with a rust, or auburn shade and then go over them with a slightly lighter shade of lipstick.  Again, burgundy or dark cherry for cooler skin tones, and something spicier like cinnamon or rust-infused shades for warmer skin tones.
To get these eyes, you'll want to start with a yellow or cream highlight color.  Sweep it over your entire lid, but focus on the brow area.  If your skin is cool, you'll want to choose a reddish undertone clay color like MAC Haux, for your lid.  If your skin tones are warmer, something with a slight orangey base like MAC Texture.  Sweep the color over your lid, allowing for extra pigment in the crease.  Blend blend blend.  Sweep a little of the color out to the tip of your brow.  You'll want it to be subtle, but to add some depth.  When you're finished with the shadow, you'll want to line with a black or brown waterproof liner.  line your upper lid above your lashes, then carefully line the inside of your eyelid, top and bottom.  Make sure you wipe any liquid off your waterline first, otherwise the liner will come off quickly.  When you're ready to take it off, an eye makeup remover will do the trick.  For the finish, curl your lashes with an eyelash curler and then use a black mascara on top and bottom.

Inspirations from Nature

Its that time of year again when all the beautiful colors are starting to show up!  What a great time to use the beauty of the earth around us as inspiration for our haircolor?

Deep coppery orange is one of the beautiful shades we start to see in the fall.  Take this  Maple tree as an example.  You can go for a bold all over color, or some pretty coppery highlights!

If red's not you're thing or you want to be a little more subtle, youcould go for a rich gold.  Try a chocolate base color with golden highlights,
or if your skin tone is complementary to it, go for a beautiful all over gold.

COLOR.BUG
Coloured Hair Shadow

In the world of session styling I'm always looking for new ways to change the models hair.  Wild crazy colour became the new hot thing but you can't just colour a models hair just because you feel like it.  I wanted full on colour but without the commitment!  I had had my share of moments where I wanted crazy colour hair on a Friday, but come Monday morning I didn't want my crazy colour anymore.

I wanted to be able to put it on and just as easily take it off.  I thought to myself, "Why can't hair colour be just as easy as applying make-up?".  I had been experimenting with pigments since the 80's obsessed with the powdered wigs of the French Revolution.  The influence came from those times but I wanted it to be intense and almost fluro as it is the intense flash of colour that makes it modern.  COLOR.BUG is wipe on, wipe off colour!  It's just for fun and just for one night.  With a towel draped around your shoulders to protect your clothes, I would apply a hair product and then the COLOR.BUG to make it stick.  The COLOR.BUG adds body to hair, you can keep this raw texture or add a fine mist of hairspray to lock in the colour.

How to use

Place a towel around your shoulders to protect your clothes from possible spillage

Using the colour pad rub onto completely dried hair where you want the colour to show

Massage into your hair to ensure the product is thouroughly worked through and is evenly spread
