September 7th ~ Goldpine
Exposing the pains of severed relationships and unearthing the pursuits of love and purpose, Goldpine is cathartic, moody, raucous, and relevant...all intertwined into one. Veterans of making music, Ben and Kassie put their hearts and souls into their music. Drawing inspiration from their roots, the name Goldpine signifies their past and their future; Kassie grew up on Pines Road in Alabama, so ‘pine’ represents the past and ‘gold’ is the lasting and valuable element that represents the future. Laced with bold vocal harmonies and fervent lyrics, their music calls to those who journey and experience life.

Mike Wurman
“Rock Solid Morning at Rumbling Bald”
Pastel
19 inches x 15.5 inches
About Mike….
After moving to Asheville, NC, to pursue a career as a pencil artist, Mike developed an overwhelming uncertainty in his abilities as an artist, and as an individual. His passion to create had vanished, so he packed up his pencils and resigned from drawing. In 2014, a hike across the summit of a bald mountain called Max Patch, reignited the flame to create as he came upon the iconic Appalachian Trail. Immediately he was overcome with desire to draw once again.
However, it wasn’t going to be as easy as picking up a pencil. He was also being called by the trail itself to make the 2,200-mile pilgrimage from Georgia to Maine. Two months later, with no backpacking experience, carrying two sketchbooks and an assortment of pencils, he left from Springer Mountain, Georgia and headed north. His journey on the trail not only strengthened his belief in himself, but it also gifted him with an undying love for nature that he’s eager to share with others.
Mike continues to work in pencil, but he quickly learned it was time to branch out of the black and white world of graphite and truly convey the vivid imagery he experienced on the trail each day, so he taught himself a colorful new medium, pastel.
Mike has some amazing work on display at our gallery, so please come by to check it out!

An Ode to the Boiled Peanut
By Cappy Hall Rearick
You will seldom hear a Southerner say,
“Boiled peanuts? Nuh uh. I prefer edamame.”
It's summertime in the South and time to think cold beer and munchies around four o'clock in the afternoon. There’s nothing better than a fresh batch of hot boiled peanuts, regular or Cajun style, paired with a cold beer.
Southerners feel a kind of reverence to this almost holy way of cooking the lowly goober. No doubt, Yankees think we are nuts, but there’s just no accounting for taste. My Pennsylvania born husband Babe, for instance, will eat just about anything not Super Glued to the floor, yet he considers boiled peanuts a gourmet delicacy. I take full responsibility for his valued opinion since I’ve worked overtime for almost thirty years to purge him of Yankee-ness.
The huge number of All-You-Can-Eat Buffet eateries found all over the South is clear evidence that we Rebels have an enduring taste for quantities of food, if not always quality. We take pride in growing peanuts, having learned early on to boil them to death in salt water. Long before they have time to cool off, they are dancing around in someone’s mouth. Give me a cold beer and a bowl of fresh goobers and I'm always happy to shag to that tune.
On many occasions, I’ve tried explaining to my unenlightened northern friends that a boiled peanut is a viable food source in Dixie, but do they buy it? Nope. They look at me like I'm the nut in question. Imagine that! Instead of embracing the subtle salty flavor and the delicately firm pip of the South's unofficial favorite food, they turn up their noses without even a taste. If I live to be a hundred, I'll never understand how we lost that war.
Popping a warm boiled peanut in my mouth during the months of June through October, is almost like going back to the womb. I can’t swallow my first goober without remembering the twenty-five cent bags of peanuts available on every street corner in the town where I grew up.
When several years ago, North Carolina’s sister neighbors to the south were polled by The Holy City’s premier newspaper food editor in order to ascertain South Carolina's most popular food, who would have thought that the ugly, no-color, lowly, salty, boiled peanut would come out on top? Well, it did.
After reading about the food poll, I began to ponder the pinder. What is the reason it is so beloved, especially south of the gnat line. Why, I wondered, do we Southerners place boiled peanuts on a pedestal right up there next to John’s Island summer tomatoes?
Maybe it’s because the quintessential Southerner, not unlike the boiled peanut, is plain and unpretentious, if a bit salty. We revere tradition and a boiled peanut is as traditional as the wedding march. Eating that first peanut is a right of passage for kids, and as in religion, the experience has been known to change a life.
The peanut became a Southern titleholder long before Jimmy Carter moved into the White House and made peanuts a household word. If you ask any of us where Coca Colas or peanuts originated, they’ll think you’ve got sauerkraut for brains.
When my brother's wife moved to our small town, the first thing she spied was a boiled peanut stand on the corner. Twenty-five cents a bag.
“I felt like crossing myself,” she said. “Any town that supports a boiled peanut stand is a holy place.” She added that eating boiled peanuts comes real close to a religious experience.
I can pretty much guarantee that I won’t cross myself or genuflect in front of a peanut stand, but I’ll go to my grave saying:
"If there are no boiled peanuts in heaven, I don't want to go there!"

Stress and the 70+ Body
The older we are, the more damage chronic stress can cause to our health. But older adults can develop a superpower that keeps its harmful effects at bay.
With age, our bodies react more intensely to stress; its effects on our health can become more toxic; and, once triggered, our bodies take longer to return to baseline. And while, as older adults, we may have fewer moments of acute stress—those onetime episodes of tension, confrontation or fright that are an inevitable part of modern life—we are more apt to be faced with chronic challenges like illness, financial insecurity or caregiving situations that can repeatedly trigger stressful reactions over the span of years, even decades. But there is good news too. For while age may erode our natural defenses against stress, it also endows us with powerful new weapons with which to fight back.
WHY WE STRESS LESS
Polls consistently show that as an older adult, you are simply better at handling stressful situations than your younger cohorts. A 2020 AARP poll found that while 38 percent of those in their 40s reported being “highly stressed,” older respondents seemed to have more resiliency: Thirty-three percent of those in their 50s, 18 percent of people in their 60s and just 13 percent of adults 70 and older said they had high stress levels.
WHAT’S GOING ON HERE?
Simply put, the older we are, the more adept we are at navigating away from potential stressful situations. Older adults possess three assets in greater abundance than younger people: life experience, self-knowledge and time perspective. “Older people are more likely to choose to disengage from minor problems, understanding that it’s really not worth it to get upset about the small stuff. And older adults are much more likely to focus their energies on important relationships with close friends and family, and less on peripheral acquaintances.
WHEN STRESS WON’T RELENT
So yes, we grownups have developed techniques for coping with acutely stressful moments—flashes of anger, approaching danger, even the onset of a pandemic. But stress remains an aggressive health foe for us, due in large part to more chronic forms of stress, and the ongoing drumbeat of health concerns, the pressures of caring for ailing relatives, and the increased anxiety around living on a “fixed” income are frequent challenges for older adults.

Natural ways to tamp down the stress effect
Ask for help. If you are experiencing stress around your finances, for example, ask a professional or someone you trust to sit down with you and work out a budget. “Financial planning is not part of stress management,” Kirsch says. “But accepting that you need to do it is.”
Take stress breaks. “To charge your phone, you have to plug it in,” says Kirsch. “To charge your brain, you have to unplug it.” Look for opportunities to stop multitasking. “When you sit down to eat breakfast, just concentrate on enjoying breakfast. Don’t plan the day.”
Use the quieting reflex. Smile—inwardly—to signal to your body that all is well. Then take one deep breath. “Visualize hot air coming up through the bottom of your feet, through your body, and filling your lungs.” Then exhale as you follow this sequence in reverse.

The word “equinox” comes from Latin and means “equal night,” referring to the12-hour day and 12-hour night that occurs only on the two equinox days of the year. Where there is balance created all over the planet, as day and night are approximately equal, the masculine and feminine are balanced, and there is a balance between light and dark creating a supportive and harmonizing energy for all.
It is a meaningful time of year to honor the harvest. Whether that be a "real" harvest of the things planted in your garden or the harvest of efforts and intentions for your life path that you set earlier in the year.
It is the time of year that we set up our internal space and make room for what’s to come in the next year. When we clear our internal ground in the fall, we go into dormancy/hibernation and become creative, but not by doing. But by becoming quiet and listening to what is trying to emerge from within us.
Allow your mind and heart to open to the healing sound and vibrations of gong. Included are movement, breathwork, meditation, and gong.
“In equinox, the day and night are of equal length. In life, we should also aim for balance between work and rest, giving and receiving, and activity and restfulness.” Sri Sri Ravi Shankar

Visitors Center

Did You Know?
We will soon begin to see the leaves change color. Do you know why this happens? Leaves of deciduous trees lose their green color in Autumn due, not to changing weather, but to shorter, cooler days and longer nights. A chemical called chlorophyll that causes the leaf’s green color, fades away because of reduced sunlight, less nutrients and less water revealing the vivid colors we all love to see in the Fall. Poplar trees in our area will be the first to reveal their bright yellow leaves followed by the red and orange of the Maple. Other tree varieties add to the display and finally, the mighty Oak, which is the last to show color begins to change. So, when will this happen for us in 2023? Peak Leaf season for our Blue Ridge Mountains will be toward the end of October marking a very busy time for the town of Saluda.
We would like to welcome the new owners and the re-opening of the Green River Barbecue Restaurant!
There are many activities going on in our area in September. Those activities are posted in the Visitor Center. If you have events or activities that you would like to post in the Visitor Center, please send them or email them to Lynn Casey at caseysaluda@gmail.com
The Visitor Center, located at 20 W. Main Street, has a nice open room with information about Saluda and the surrounding area and two ADA-compliant restrooms. The Center features a slideshow created by the Saluda Historical Society that highlights Saluda’s history.
The center is operated by an all-volunteer staff and all operating expenses are split equally between the Saluda Downtown Foundation, Saluda Business Association, and the Saluda Tourism Development Authority.
Additionally, we’d like to invite visitors and residents alike to visit the Center to learn about Saluda’s Historic walks or scenic drives, get hiking trail maps and area maps. We also have “Things to do in Saluda” list, restaurant menus, lodging choices and a variety of business pamphlets. We continue to put out a call for more volunteers for short shifts to provide information and keep the facility clean and organized. The shifts are easy and fun, you meet nice people, and you will be properly trained before starting. Please consider volunteering or just drop by during hours to say hello! We would like to welcome our newest volunteer, Brenda Morris. Welcome Brenda!
If you are interested in volunteering or learning more about the Visitor Center please contact Lynn Casey at caseysaluda@gmail.com.

Pop-Up Pantry
Summer is a busy time at the Pantry. As part of the Farm to Neighbor program, our local farmers are delivering abundant fresh vegetables and fruits for our shoppers. This program was highlighted in the July issue of Saluda Lifestyles. Summer brings more residents to Saluda, many of whom volunteer during this time. Summer also means MANNA has more fresh produce that they provide. We are thankful to all who help us each Tuesday as we prepare the Pantry for our shoppers.
| |
|
Every Tuesday throughout the summer an outside table full of beautiful summer bouquets catches everyone’s eye. The Saluda Garden Club has been making this donation each week for several years now. Members gather as their summer flowers bloom to make these bouquets for Pantry shoppers. With an increase in the number of families who need our services this year, the Garden Club met the challenge making enough bouquets for each shopper. A special thanks to Susan Casey who has been providing the largest donation of cut flowers for bouquets each Tuesday. Patty Martin sits outside and welcomes shoppers with her big smile as she gives bouquets to shoppers as they leave. Shoppers are delighted to have these flowers and Patty is guaranteed to receive smiles and thanks in return.
| |
Thanks to the Garden Club for the beautiful flowers given to us every summer. A spectacular bouquet promises to bring joy to anyone’s day, something the Garden Club knew and wanted to share with our shoppers. Colorful abundant flowers carry symbolic meanings of happiness. Thank you, Saluda Garden Club, for bringing happiness to shoppers of the Pop-Up Pantry and for those who just happen to pass by.
“Happiness held is the seed; Happiness shared is the flower.” – John Harrigan
More information about the Pantry can be found at our website saludapantry@gmail.com.
Donations are most appreciated and can be mailed to

"Harmonizing Dreams: The Inspiring Journey of Bob and Linda Whitaker's Musical Haven in the Mountains"
In a tale of entrepreneurial success, Bob and Linda Whitaker embarked on a remarkable venture. Their vision was clear: to create an exceptional entertainment venue that would resonate with music lovers everywhere. With unwavering determination, they set out to build a splendid 12,000-square-foot music hall nestled amidst the serene beauty of a rural mountain setting.and
According to Bob Whitaker, most people who visited the venue came to dance, while others came to enjoy the good bands. The place was known for its good, clean atmosphere, ensuring that everyone had a great time without any worries.
The Jamboree (first name give to the establishment), stands alone on a hill in a gravel parking lot off Friendship Church Road in Saluda, attracting people from North Carolina and Upstate South Carolina. Bob Whitaker, who used to call square dances in his spare time, had the dream, the land, and the perfect partner, his wife, Linda, to make the venture successful.
With a passion for music and a good ear, Bob Whitaker had a talent for selecting great bands, many of which came from around Greenville and Spartanburg, playing various genres like country, beach, rock 'n' roll, and top 40 tunes.
The Jamboree, also known as the "Party Place," opened in 2005 after the Whitakers invested their dream, $550,000, and determination into the project. They built the Jamboree on their own land, using local workers and materials, always ensuring high quality during the year and a half of construction. The result was a remarkable facility perfectly suited for dancing, music, entertainment, and events.
The building featured a 40-foot-by-20-foot stage with insulated walls for better acoustics and pine wood paneling for enhanced sound. The 7,000-square-foot area, including the stage, bar, and dance floor, was referred to as the auditorium.
Despite its size, accommodating up to 1,000 guests, most Saturday nights drew around 100 people, a mix of regulars and newcomers. The Jamboree's popularity extended to private events as well, with people renting the venue for weddings, class reunions, fundraising events, and corporate parties.
Bob Whitaker's genuine enjoyment of meeting and getting to know the guests made the Jamboree even more special. He knew the names of most regular attendees and their backgrounds, always making everyone feel welcome.
The Whitakers took pride in maintaining a clean and inviting environment. During holidays, they decorated the place with Christmas trees and wreaths, and for weddings and special events, they covered tables in white.
Though initially considered to be a square dance and bluegrass venue, the Whitakers had to adapt and diversify when those genres failed to attract customers. They successfully evolved by hiring country, beach, and rock 'n' roll bands, and now the Jamboree is known as an upscale, classy, country facility.
Bob and Linda Whitaker's dedication and attention to detail in creating the Saluda Mountain Jamboree (now known as “The Party Place”) paid off, making it the perfect spot for an enjoyable time in Saluda.
Having perfected the art of entertainment in their large building perched on a hill in Saluda, Bob and Linda Whitaker leave behind a legacy of joy and community connection. After a fulfilling run and substantial contributions to the Saluda community, the Whitakers have decided to retire, passing on the baton of this cherished venue to someone ready to pen the next chapter of its story.
As the music hall goes up for sale, it presents a golden opportunity for an aspiring entrepreneur or passionate individual to continue fostering the vibrant spirit of this beloved establishment. For those interested in learning more about this exciting prospect, Amy Wood can be reached at 828-713-2227 or via email at amywood@lookingglassrealty.com. As the baton is passed, the future of this cherished venue eagerly awaits new creative hands to shape its continued success within the heart of the Saluda community.

Thomas The Tank Engine Celebrates his 78th Birthday
Thomas the Tank Engine was created by Wilbert Vere Awdry in a series of children’s books in 1945. Since Thomas is 78 years old, he is quite frail. Located on the Depot deck, poor Thomas has suffered repeated damage due to youngsters climbing on top of the engine. We want Thomas to remain next to the Depot and we are requesting that people treat him with care. After all, he is an old man. Please take advantage of the photo opportunity and allow your children to sit inside the cab rather than climbing on top of the cab or engine. Thank you for your cooperation and wish old Thomas a happy birthday when you visit him. The Thomas Rules and The History of Thomas the Tank Engine are posted near Thomas. Take time to read about Thomas’ long life.
We not only sell ice cream and gifts in the Sweet Shoppe, we also sell Carpenter Bee Traps. Two of our volunteers are hand making the traps and we should have an ample supply this spring. So, stop by the SHD Sweet Shoppe, have an ice cream and purchase a Carpenter Bee Trap for $25.
All proceeds go to maintaining the Saluda Historic Depot and Museum.

We’re Vlogging! Please like, share and subscribe!
Onsite vlogging is a great way to learn about historical places and interesting people who once lived in Saluda and who left an indelible footprint behind. Our most recent video was filmed at the historic Macedonia Baptist Church on July 9, 2023. As it stands today, the church is the original church, but it has been renovated and modernized. It is located off Macedonia Road, which traces its history to the old drovers’ trails of western NC. Many of the founding family members are buried in this cemetery. Located in Henderson County, Macedonia Baptist Church was organized in 1898. The first pastor was Reverend William Henry Jones, who preached for 64 years and is buried directly at the rear of the church. It is said that he requested to be buried as close to the pulpit of this church as possible once he passed, thus the location of his grave at the very rear of the church. Charter member surnames were Fletcher, Williams, Revis, Arledge, Guice, Staton, Gordon and Wagener. The cemetery contains a large number of Guice family members.
In this video we paused to recognize the following individuals who are either buried in the church cemetery or are connected in some way to the people buried there: Rev. William Henry Jones, Zoro Guice, Sr., Sidney Guice, Joseph Hoge Stephenson, Minnie May Guice Stephenson, William Dockery "Dock" Guice, Ella Heatherly Guice, Walter Stephenson, Joseph "Raymond" Stephenson, Sr., Joseph Raymond "Joe" Stephenson, Jr., Mintie Guice Pace, Dulas Guice, and more.
Filmed and produced by Cindy Stephenson Tuttle for the Historic Saluda Committee, you can view by going to https://youtu.be/z8tUfbJ-R9k or visit our YouTube page at www.youtube.com/@HistoricSaludaNC.

Annual Gala Fundraiser
To benefit the Saluda Senior Center was held the evening of August 2, 2023. The summer garden theme was beautifully decorated by Brandy Newman, highlighted with fresh white oak leaf hydrangas, white tablecloths with subtle pink and green floral print and forest green accents. Gourmet fare, catered by Irmi, and homemade desserts baked by the board members were enjoyed by all. The wine and champagne and music provided by classical guitarist, Steve Newbrough added to the festive atmosphere. Because the gala was held this year in August, we were able to welcome some of our summer residents. We are happy to report that due to our many generous donors, we were able to more than reach our goal. Thanks again to all who support the Senior Center so we can continue provide services and a comfortable meeting place for our community.

September is the meteorological start of Fall, and we hope it holds true! Fall is the beginning of a magical time to be in Saluda and it is the start of a lot of activities; our wonderful elementary school is bustling, and leaves are starting to change colors (dependent on the weather, of course.) It is time to start thinking about the changing of the season with shorter days and lower temperatures. This transitional month offers us a nice segway into cool and is still busy! The summer crowds turn into folks looking forward to the cool mountain air.
| |
Our pillows move from the porch into the living room or den but still fit perfectly. Our “Queen of Quite a Lot” works well on your sofa and “Relax You’re at the Lake” sits happily anywhere since the lake does not move even if the pillow does. “Mountains are the Cathedrals where I Practice my Religion” works indoors or out and our crewel work and hand painted pillow can freshen up any room.
We have new lamps in singles or pairs to lighten up a room. Check out our tall new pair with remarkably interesting shades! We also have singles (also known as ‘only children’) with chenille shades; remember the bedspread made from chenille yarn? It works well on lamp shades too thanks to our creative owner!
A big seller of the summer has been our rompers! Crafted by a local seamstress, these “aprons” (as they were originally called) have come out of the kitchen and onto the streets of Saluda. With a tee shirt and leggings, they have been a cool dressing respite from the heat. For cooler weather they are perfect with a long sleeve shirt or sweater.
| |
Our locally produced Muddy Llama pottery is always popular for a home; yours or someone else’s! Apple Pie for Two is coming into season as Blueberry Cobbler rolls on! Mushroom Quiche is always a hit and the Baked Brie dish is perfect for entertaining. We can even add to the recipe with our own Baked Brie with Pecans and Kahlua!
Come in and see what appeals to you! This in-between season is a fun time to be in Saluda. But then Saluda is fun anytime!
River Dog Run is open 7 days a week. Open Monday-Saturday 11AM to 5Pm and Sunday noon to 4PM, we are more available than ever this year! Located at 46 East Main in Saluda, we are also available by appointment. For questions, please contact 828-551-1461.
Well-mannered four-legged friends are always welcome and will receive a “snack!” Water bowl outside if they just want to window shop!

It is already September and the kids are back in school or headed that way and summer is drawing to an end. The good news is the weather is cooling down and fall in Western North Carolina is the very best place to be on Earth! More good news is that we have some great End of Summer Sales and Labor Day Weekend Sales for you to take advantage of. One example is BOGO shoe sale on select shoes and boots.
FROM RETAIL: If you haven’t visited lately, you have missed out on so many new items in our shop. Come check out our Fahlo animal tracking bracelets. These beaded beauties were created “in partnership with conservation efforts worldwide.” All purchases help support wildlife. Whether it is a dolphin or penguin, each bracelet comes with a real wild animal that you can track on your phone, tablet or computer.
Also, in retail, we have Anju rings, Wigzi dog leashes, Black Diamond Trail Sport trekking poles, Emo hammocks, Cotopaxi bags and artistic wine bottle holders as well as a variety of stickers featuring Appalachia, the Green River and our own branded Saluda Outfitters and Green River Eddy’s logos. Campers can find a wide variety of fun things to keep the family busy. The kids will love the Just Jig It fire fishing poles for roasting hot dogs, shrimp, marsh mellows or anything else and the S’mores builder camp fire tool that makes it much easier to roast a s’mores over the camp fire. For the grownups, there is a selection of quality fishing poles and flies.
Our fall clothing is coming in with some beautiful items to choose from. We have a small selection of children’s clothing, a wide selection of SO and GRE branded tees (short and long sleeved). A new item is our Hello Mello colorful women’s loungewear. Also, check out of own branded FLO3 hats and tees designed “for life on water.”
With Halloween not far away, you will also want to take a look at our selection of
unique candles—some that when lit, appear to drip blood just for a special Halloween effect!
FROM THE GRILL: We are so excited to have a new chef on board and a crew of experienced kitchen staff for our restaurant. New menu items are being developed and sampled. For example, brisket burnt ends with a Cheerwine BBQ sauce, smoked then fried chicken wings with a tangy Alabama white sauce. A new chicken breast sandwich--your choice of grilled or fried.
FROM THE TAP ROOM: Along with our already popular 16 taps of craft beers and favorite domestics, wines and cocktail, the tap room has added frozen slushies that can cool off the kiddies but still provide an adult drink as requested. While apple season is upon us, we are adding an apple cider slushy. Our under 18 visitors can enjoy this drink, while our over 18 adults can add a little taste of their favorite alcohol.
FROM OUR LIVE MUSIC VENUE: Whether it is from our outdoor Under the Oak Stage or the indoor Sound Garden Stage, we continue to provide some of the best live music in the area. We bring in a variety of local acts from rock to pop to country to blues to bluegrass. Our live music is held EVERY Friday and Saturday evening from 7-10 p.m. with bands set up on our expansive outdoor deck overlooking the entrance to Main Street as weather permits. Saluda Outfitters is proud to be able to offer talented local musicians a place to share their love of music and their original songs. (Check out our September live music listings elsewhere in this publication and on our website.)

The Orchard Inn & Spa and Newman's Restaurant |
| | This morning as I was starting my morning hike with Roxy I felt a slight chill in the air signalling the first signs of Fall approaching. There's a good reason why this is the most popular time of year in Western NC - plain and simple - it's amazing. The Dogwoods are already beginning to change color, heralding the start of Autumn. As you ascend the winding driveway to our 12-acre elegant mountain oasis, restaurant and spa, framed with beautiful reblooming azaleas and the last of our summer hydrangea flowers, the stress of normal day to day life immediately starts to drift away. The official welcome committee (our Boxer - Roxy) will be standing by to challenge you with a stick and walk you up the steps to our antebellum front porch where she will attempt to lure you into a game of tug of war. Don't be tempted - you're sure to lose. Welcome to the Orchard Inn & Spa and Newman's Restaurant where the temperature is cool, the atmosphere is serene and the hospitality warm. Come help us celebrate 97 years of gracious southern living.
Our fine dining restaurant, Newman's, continues to receive high accolades from food critics far and wide and sells out most every meal. Voted by Our State Magazine as one of the top 14 "must experience restaurants" in North Carolina. We have created a lovely all weather outside dining area on our back terrace with gorgeous views of the surrounding mountains. We serve dinner every Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights starting at 5:30 pm, and an incredible Brunch every Sunday beginning at 11:30 am. At Newman's Restaurant we strive to bring diners a true "farm to table" gastronomic experience. Treat yourself to a most creatively prepared and delicious fine dining culinary adventure! You don't have to be a guest of the Inn to enjoy a meal at Newman's. Our amazing 3-course brunch is only $45 and goes from 11:30-1:30 every Sunday. Our 4-course dinners are a great value at $89. Every seat in the elegant dining room has an awesome view of the Saluda mountains, and the fire table on our lower gazebo terrace is a perfect place to enjoy a cocktail, glass of wine or local beer prior to dinner. It's hard to find a better meal in the great culinary towns of Asheville, Greenville or Charleston. We are literally a diamond in the woods. Call 828-749-5471 now to book a table this weekend before it's too late. Now serving awesome cocktails and mixed beverages for your enjoyment!
Our Spa is open and all are welcome. We've created a very zen-like environment where you can de-stress, unwind, relax and be pampered with an array of therapeutic massages or restorative facials by highly skilled therapists. It's a perfect place to have a girl's afternoon off and sit by the waterfall while sipping a glass of wine after a heavenly treatment. The Koi fish are waiting to greet you so come check us out. We are now offering all organic healing products from Appalachian Growers. September is a month for pampering so we are offering locals a 20% discount for all treatments.
Originally built in 1926 and called the Mountain Home of Southern Railway Clerks the Inn sits on 12 acres, is listed on the National Register of Historic Places, and is a member of the distinguished Select Registry and Chaîne des Rôtisseurs. There are 8 rooms upstairs in the Inn, all with private baths and lovely mountain views, a suite downstairs, 5 private cottages with decks or screened in porches, deluxe soaking tubs for two, and gas fireplaces, plus 2 new mountain view luxury suites. All rooms are tastefully decorated with antiques and period pieces, and our linens are ultra luxurious. The gracious hosts, Marc & Marianne look forward to welcoming you to their little slice of heaven. We're proud to announce being awarded by Trip Advisor - 2012, 2013, 2014, 2015, 2016, 2017, 2018, 2019, 2020, 2021 and 2022 Certificate of Excellence, and by Open Table - No. 1 Restaurant in Western N.C.
We look forward to greeting you soon!
