CAMP Chronicles Volunteer Spotlight: Layla Boyd
We are excited to highlight Layla, one of our dedicated Volunteer Counselors, and the recipient of the Dr. Bob DeLemos Volunteer Service Award for contributing the most volunteer hours to CAMP this season. We had the chance to ask Layla a few questions about her experience at CAMP, and here's what she shared.
How long have you been volunteering with CAMP? I just finished my first summer volunteering at CAMP.
What inspired you to start volunteering with CAMP? I was inspired to start volunteering because I wanted an opportunity to use ASL in the real world outside of the classroom.
Can you share a memorable experience or favorite moment from your time volunteering? One of my favorite moments from volunteering was my first session out. I had a camper named Hunter who loved to swim. On Thursday night we got to go swimming instead of going to the night activity. I loved seeing the joy on his face when he realized that we were going swimming and we had a blast.
What do you enjoy most about volunteering at CAMP? I enjoy the beautiful connections that you make not only with your camper, but with the people in your tribe as well. I think it's such an amazing thing hanging out with your friend. You always have an awesome week when you're at CAMP.
Is there anything else you would like to share about your volunteer experience? I think that CAMP is such a magical place and I'm so thankful for everything it's given me. I had the best summer of my life this past summer and I couldn't have asked for a better experience.
Thank you, Layla, for your dedication and passion. You've made a meaningful impact at CAMP, and we're grateful to have you as part of our family!
