FOCCC Looking For a Few Good Men and Women

At the upcoming Annual Meeting, FOCCC members will vote on potential Board members for a two-year term. We are fortunate to have several current Board members willing to serve again. These include Mike and Cecil Williams, Alan Craig, and Rene Donaldson. Also willing to serve is Pat Parran, who has been attending Board meetings and taking minutes.  Continuing members of the Board, who were elected for two-year terms last year, are Reed Peters, Sheri Ashley, Bob Ashley, Rick Beno, Stevie Wayman and Kim Vicariu.  Even if this slate is approved by the membership, the Board will still have a few vacancies.

To fill vacancies on the Board, the FOCCC Bylaws allow new members to be added during the year by a vote of the Board. We strongly encourage anyone considering serving to contact a Board member for more information. This is a working board, so Board members are expected to do more than attend meetings and vote. Thus, members gain satisfaction from shepherding projects and activities that contribute to our mission. If you wish to have an impact in this way, please step forward.

Heavenly Images by Fred Espenak

I've been working on the processing of this image (on and off) for a week or so. It is a deep image of the constellation Orion and it reveals many of the bright and faint nebulae present in the region. The image is actually a composite of seven 4-minute exposures.   This time of year Orion is best about 3 am, but it will be better placed in the evening sky by January.

On the evening of Oct. 29, I shot a time-sequence of the crescent Moon setting behind the rugged peaks of the Chiricahua Mountains in Portal, AZ.
