HELLO

FALL

Those of you who have been here awhile know that September is my favorite month. And this September feels extra special. Along with celebrating my 45th birthday this month, it's also my 25th anniversary of being a massage therapist! That is no small feat! The average therapist only stays in the career for 5-8 years, typically moving on because of injury/pain. But I can honestly say I'm 25 years in and have no desire to do anything else! As I'm reflecting on this milestone anniversary and the years I've spent doing my dream job, I'm just feeling so grateful. But I'm not done yet and I want to continue to provide the best quality massage possible to be the best massage therapist for you!

So, this season's Tips From Your Favorite Massage Therapist are ways that you can make the most of your massage time with me. It all basically boils down to communication and asking for what you want and need. Read more below.

How to make the most of your Tranquil Massage

  • Tell me what you're feeling! Sounds simple, but I've been surprised in the past with clients who inform me that they're having a surgery after years of pain- and I never knew they were suffering! Tell me what areas are feeling sore, tight or achy so we can focus and adjust the massage accordingly.

  • To talk or not to talk is entirely up to you. Some people need silence to relax and enjoy the massage fully, while others feel more relaxed as they talk about what's on their mind or going on in their life. And some people like a mix of both. I generally follow the rule of not speaking unless I'm spoken to and will follow your lead.

  • If you don't love the music, I have hundreds of spotify lists to choose from, just tell me. Or if you're feeling too warm or cold, I have a heated pad on the table and more blankets and fans in the room, just let me know so I can adjust the temperature so that you're comfortable.

  • Depending on how you were feeling before the massage, it's not uncommon to feel achy or sore after the massage. If things are feeling pretty sore, I recommend taking an epsom salt bath. It will help ease any soreness so you're feeling loose and relaxed.

  • Often, we can leave a massage feeling sleepy and it sounds great to curl up on the couch to take a little snooze, but I actually don't recommend that. During a massage, I'm communicating with your muscles and encouraging length and looseness and good postural allignment. If you curl up on the couch, you will likely stiffen and shorten the muscles we just worked to lengthen. If you do want to lay down, try to set yourself up in a good position and then maybe take a little walk to shake it out after.

  • And last but not at all least- drink lots of water after your massage to maximize the benefits to your body!

From the bottom of my heart, I want to thank you all for trusting me to be your massage therapist. Thank you for being a part of my business and more importantly, my life. Last month my boys both started their senior years- Ethan in college and Cade in high school- and it got me thinking that many of you have been with me from the very beginning of parenthood and the start of my business! I've loved sharing our journeys while also helping your bodies deal with the inevitable aging process with as much grace as possible. I am honored, grateful and blessed to know each and every one of you.

Wishing you good health and a happy fall season!
