Goya Contemporary's booth at the Armory Show, New York, NY. | |
Goya Contemporary was pleased to exhibit, once again, at the 29th edition of The Armory Show New York’s premier Art Fair Exhibition. Enthusiastic conversation paired with vigorous acquisitions made for a very successful event. Presenting a curated selection of works by Joyce J. Scott (b. 1948, Baltimore, USA) and Jo Smail (b. 1943, Durban, South Africa) , the fair garnered excellent press coverage, significant institutional attendance, and highly regarded programming. This year’s fair saw patrons attend from approximately 150 cultural partners, welcomed nearly 100 curators from leading institutions, and presented intensive dialogues on cutting-edge topics at the sixth annual Curatorial Leadership Summit.
A cornerstone of New York’s cultural landscape since its founding in 1994, The Armory Show brings the world’s leading international contemporary and modern art galleries to New York each year, and we were honored to be the only gallery selected from the state of Maryland. In 2021, Goya presented a solo exhibition of the work of Elizabeth Talford Scott, which garnered significant attention and gallery recognition in the NYTimes review of the show. The gallery began exhibiting at the Armory Show back in 2002.

"The Culture: Hip Hop and Contemporary Art in the 21st Century captures the extraordinary influence of the movement, which has driven innovations in music, visual and performing arts, fashion, and technology and grown into a global phenomenon since its emergence in the 1970s. The exhibition features approximately 70 objects by both established and emerging artists, design houses, streetwear icons, and musicians working in a wide range of media to demonstrate hip hop’s proliferation from the street to the runway, the studio to the museum gallery, and countless sites in between."
