Welcome to the CO-AMTA 2018 Fall Education Event and Chapter Meeting!!!!

This fall we will be hosting our education event in beautiful Glenwood Springs CO once again. Please join us at the Glenwood Springs Community Center on the weekend of September 29th - 30th 2018 for a wonderful weekend of education and general joyful behavior!!

For this education event the CO-AMTA will be learning from Lori Dowiak. Lori received a BS from the University of Pittsburgh, in physical therapy. She has extensive training in orthopedic and manual therapies through continuing education programs. As owner of Bloomfield Therapy, she provides manual therapies for all age groups; she also acts as both a presenter and teaching assistant for IAHE and is wonderful instructor with the Barrel Institue.

In this 12 hour course we will be introduced to the role of Visceral Manipulation in assisting functional and structural imbalances throughout the body including musculoskeletal, vascular, nervous, urogenital, respiratory, digestive and lymphatic dysfunction. You can learn more about this impactful treatment at: https://www.barralinstitute.com/index.php

The course cost is $90.00 and is approved through the NCBTMB for 12 CE hours for massage therapists. This is only an introducation to visceral manipulation and not a certification course!!! Please be aware that your registration includes the chapter meeting! You do not need to sign up for the chapter meeting if you are attending the course.

Because this event will be running from 9:00 AM to 4:00 pm on Saturday and Sunday, the chapter is planning on a social gathering for the evening of Saturday the 29th at the Glenwood Springs Hot Springs Pool. If you would like to join the Colorado Chapter for this social event of soaking and stress reduction you must register and pay for it in advance. If you decide last minute to join us you will still be able to attend but you will not receive the group rate.

For hotel accomodations you can reserve a room at Courtyard Mariott Glenwood Springs. The hotel is located across the street from the Community Center and about a 5 minute drive from downtown.

If you are interested in sharing a room with a fellow member please feel free to ask about room shares at AMTA CO Event Lodging

Recap on National Convention in D.C. 2018

AMTA National Convention this year was held in Washington DC August 9-11, 2018 to celebrate our "75th Anniversary". Our Colorado Chapter board members started their convention experience off with leadership training, which helped us all find answers to questions we had that will benefit out chapters. This also was a great opportunity to network with other chapters and brainstorm with them on similar issues. The Colorado chapter had the opportunity to sit down with the Con necticut BOD Chapter (since they too are an XL chapter) and discuss our state convention needs and ideas. An awesome opportunity to brainstorm together for many great changes both chapters can implement in our future events.  Our inspiring opening session was by Bert Jacobs, co-founder and CEO of Life is Good. He had so many great inspiring thoughts during his opening session. Here are just a few that may resonate with you.

1)  Many think we have lots of stories, but each of  us have only one story and it's called our life. So go out and live your story!!!

2)  Tell me something good that happened today. By aski ng our families or coworkers to tell you something good allows for the focus to be on the positive in our lives. Most people will focus on the negatives around us, but we all have obstacles in our life but we can overcome our obstacles by focusing on what's good. This can be done by putting our limited energy and resources into all that is good rather than the n egative/bad. Acknowledge what's wrong but focus on what's right and that will grow.

3)  Life is good is not about life being perfect or easy but it's about your disposition and your view of the world that is the most powerful. See the opportunities!!!  National Convention as always is filled with man y opportunities to grow as a massage therapist through the vast assortment of education opportunities as well as the chance to connect (and in some cases, reconnect) with other massage therapists throughout the country. AMTA is family and this convention showed us just  that. H ope to see you guys next year in Indianapolis.
