Top NC Men's & Women's Teams Compete at 100th Annual USASA National Amateur Cup!
The USASA National Amateur Cup, was founded in 1924 and is the United States Adult Soccer Association’s (USASA’s) highest level amateur tournament. Last weekend, (July 25-28) the tournament was held in DeKalb, IL, where it celebrated 100 years of bringing together the best teams from across the country to compete for the national title.
USASA is broken into four geographical regions across the United States. Each region hosts its own annual amateur cup tournament. The regional winners of the men’s and women’s open brackets qualify for the final four, National Amateur Cup held each summer.
At this year’s Cup, on the women’s side, Charlotte, North Carolina's Winger FC (Region III) defeated New York's Rochester Lazers (Region I) 3-1 in the semifinals. Winger FC went on to play Utah-based Pan World Elite (Region IV) in the finals. After a hard-fought game, Winger FC were ultimately defeated by Pan World Elite 3-0.
On the men’s side, Durham, North Carolina's Tobacco Rd (Region III) lost 1-5 to New York’s EPSL team Pancyprian Freedoms (Region I) in the men’s semifinals. Pancyprian Freedoms went on to defeat Wisconsin NPSL team, FC Milwaukee Torrent (Region II) 6-0 to win the tournament.
