30 Years at Daybreak!

Bob, a long time resident of Somerset House, has been at Daybreak Housing for 30 years. At our End of Summer BBQ Party, Daybreak celebrated Bob's exemplary conduct during his time at Daybreak and presented him with a certificate and a gift. Congratulations Bob!

Resident News

Welcome to Daybreak Kaelen, Daniel, Eddie and Andre!

Daybreak welcomed 4 new residents this past quarter. The residents are thrilled that they were able to access safe, affordable, and comfortable housing in a supportive community.

A New BBQ!

This summer staff purchased a new BBQ from Home Depot. This BBQ was super for the End of Summer BBQ Party where all our residents got to celebrate together.

Home Depot - Awarded us a $10,000 Community Development Grant this month. This grant is very welcomed and vital to Daybreak, as it enables staff to purchase anything from tools, flooring, appliances, van rental, paint, garden furniture, and general maintenance to our houses. We are very grateful to Home Depot for their continued support.

See You Soon

This past quarter, Daybreak sadly had to say "See You Soon" to our Program Manager, Logan. She and her partner moved to Vancouver, BC! Logan will be greatly missed, but Daybreak is very excited for her new chapter. Staff, Board Members, and Residents all got to celebrate with Logan at the End of Summer BBQ Party.

"Moving is bittersweet. I am very excited for the next adventure in Vancouver, but I am also so very sad to be leaving. Daybreak has become more than just my workplace. In my short time here, I have come to see that this incredible team is more like friends and family.

The residents always kept me on my toes, and I never knew what to expect next. It taught me a great deal of flexibility. I would like to thank Amanda, Brodie, and Richard for teaching me so much while being here and being so welcoming from the very beginning. I also have each board member to thank. It has been a pleasure working with each member and learning pieces from everyone.

I feel so incredibly lucky to have been given the opportunity to join the team at Daybreak and am sad it is ending far too soon. I thank everyone I have had the pleasure of meeting and working with for the connections I have made." - Logan

We are very sad to see Logan go, she brought great enthusiasm, energy and empathy to Daybreak. We wish her all the very best. - Richard

Thank you!

Daybreak would like to thank the Ottawa Student Transportation Authority for their donation of disinfectant spray, hand sanitizer, and N95 masks. Staff rented a Home Depot van and were able to collect the donation and provide to all of Daybreak's houses.

Khalsa Aid

Khalsa Aid are a volunteer-based organization that supports nonprofits/organizations in need around the world. We have had a very nice relationship with Khalsa Aid Canada (Ottawa Branch) for several years now. Khalsa Aid contacted Daybreak mid-August and wanted to discuss a pilot project which they hope would turn into a permanent community project. They suggested a drop-off of essential items for Daybreak’s 47 residents every 2 weeks for 2 months. They asked what our organization would need. Daybreak focused on housing essentials such as bedding, pillows, curtains, toiletries, clothing, and food. Daybreak is so grateful for our partnership with Khalsa Aid and the incredible work they are doing to help the Ottawa homeless sector. Please see the first delivery photos of staff, board president Kate Moore, Khalsa Aid and residents at our Flora House.

Daybreak would like to thank IKEA Ottawa staff members, Amanda, and Justin, for their donation of utility carts.

City Funding

Daybreak received city funding for radiator removals and replacement at Somerset house, new accessible bathroom on the ground floor at Somerset, and water backflow modifications at 3 houses as required by the city. Daybreak will begin these renovations in the coming months.
