Rescue Spotlights
Meet Ms Annie!

Ms Annie, 8 and half years young, the friendliest, sweetest goof ball who loves to cuddle all the time is looking for a family to call her own to provide unlimited and unconditional love. Just a few years ago, Annie thought she found her fur-ever home when she was adopted, only to be returned later due to the lifestyle changes of her adoptive family. Nevertheless, this beautiful soul didn't let that break her spirit. She is just a happy, joyful dog who loves to play fetch and retrieve infinitely and is equally content playing with her toys by herself. While she is not busy playing, this sweetheart loves getting as many belly rubs as you can spare. BTW Ms Annie is quite a beauty with her unique elegant white, tan, yellow, fawn markings that will make you fall in love with her. Now we know it's not polite to ask a lady her weight, but just for this time we can let you in on this secret. Ms Annie is a 55 lb beauty who is perfectly house trained, crate trained and leash trained. She loves to go on walks and knows all her basic commands. It would be ideal if she were the only dog in the home. We sincerely hope that she finds her home and family soon. Please consider opening your hearts and home to this angel. Please share it with your friends and family who are looking to adopt a fur-ever best friend.
Meet Ms Lucy!

Quiet, Calm, happy and healthy is what comes to mind when you meet this 60 lb sweet heart Lucy, a bright light so full of love. But it was not at all like that when we got her from Baldwin park shelter. Lucy's owner dumped her at the shelter as she was very sick. When we pulled her from the shelter she was a hot mess. Her immune system was attacking itself and to top that she had a bad pneumonia. The doctors ended up doing a punch biopsy to diagnose her condition and helped her get through to the other side. The transformation of Lucy has been nothing but a miracle. Although this miracle came with a huge medical bill, it was worth saving this sweetie pie. She looks fabulous now and is looking for a home to call her own. She is good with other calm dogs and adores all people. She comes leash trained, house broken and knows all the basic commands. After everything this 4.5 year old had been through, we sincerely hope she finds her fur-ever home, if not at least a good foster home soon. If you or your friends, family is looking to get their fur-ever best friend for life and/or would like to help us with Miss Lucy's medical expenses, please reach out to us. Thank You very much.
Senior/Hospice Fostering
Josiah, our Hospice Foster
If you haven’t heard the term before, fospice isn’t an exotic spice or some millennial slang. Fospice is, however, something profoundly indescribable. It’s an experience that juxtaposes all that is happy and joyful and melds it with an excruciating heartbreak. Meet Josiah, our hospice foster.

Paw UP! Medical Fund
We need your help to help more dogs like Noodle !
Puppy Noodle, a 4 month old trooper is the newest addition to our Labs and Friends family. This 12 lbs fur ball was hit by a speeding car in Bakersfield and sent to a shelter. When we rescued him this poor puppy was in such terrible pain having broken his pelvis in 4 places on both sides and desperately in need of surgery. With the help of amazing Dr Hampel of VCA Medical Center ( El Cajon,CA ) this little man went through is fighting to heal soon and get back to being a happy puppy he deserves to be. It costed up to $4000 for his surgery and w e couldn't have done this if it weren't for the donations we receive from our kind sponsors, like you. Being an exclusively ALL-VOLUNTEER organization, we greatly appreciate your donations and use every penny wisely towards the rescue and protection of helpless furry babies like Noodle. No donation is too small!! Please consider donating to Labradors and Friends rescue today. Note that all donations are 100% tax deductible! We and our furry friends thank you from the bottom of our hearts and PAWS!!

Feature Stories
Remembering Precious Kelly
Kelly Allerston ...two things that come to mind when we think of our precious Kelly are her beautiful infectious smile and her love for dogs. Two times foster failure, she was a true gem with so much love for life. When Kelly found out that she was pregnant for the first time, she and her husband, Charlie, were beyond excited. What should have been the best time of their life also turned out to be the saddest as Kelly was diagnosed with breast cancer while she was pregnant.
Her love for her baby made her choose to continue with the pregnancy and defer the treatment until the baby was born. She gave birth to a beautiful healthy baby boy and continued her fight with the cancer bravely with her loving family by her side.

Despite how hard her treatments were, how fragile she felt Kelly was always upbeat, continued her volunteer work and even fostered whenever she could. Kelly briefly won the battle and went into remission for a short period. But what everyone thought was a persistent cough turned to be a metastasis to her lungs and then to the brain.

Kelly always wanted to live in beautiful Colorado and her husband made it possible for her. The whole family along with her guinea pigs and dogs moved to the "Centennial State" , the home of Rocky Mountains, where Kelly peacefully took her last breath surrounded by her loving human and furry family.
Dogs Seeking Humans to Foster
No we didn’t get this backwards. While we are grateful to our fosters and volunteers, let’s be honest...part of the reason why many people choose to foster or volunteer (besides being a good human being and earning good karma points) is because dogs give back that unexplainable, unconditional thing

San Diego has the largest concentration of military personnel, which means San Diego is home to many people from other parts of the country and most likely missing their homes...

Patina's Happy Tail
Patina came into the Downey Animal Shelter in January of 2014…alone, scared and unsure of the world. We were committed to finding her forever family and home. Here is her Happy Tail…

Pet Tech and Supplies
Keep Tabs on Your Pooch With "Whistle"
There are plenty of devices out there to help humans track their physical activity, but what you may not know is that the same technology is out there for your four-legged friends!  Whistle  is a small device that attaches to your dog’s collar and tracks its activity and location. It’s not just for counting steps, though – if you’ve got an escape artist, it can quite literally be a life saver...
